As far as Obamacare, I have friends who lost insurance and went to Obamacare and told me it was a total joke.
Come on Witless I have help many people get on the ACA I know those exchanges well and how they work. These people telling you there a joke are not being honest. Let's put it this way. I lived in a Condo development near a small college a lot of these college students did odd jobs. I helped 7 of them get on the ACA and there premiums under the Bronze plan were between $68 and $92 depending on what the carriers were providing and yes the deductibles were high but how many young people really get sick that require hospitalization where the deductibles actually come in to play.
Now I helped a few older people meaning people who lost there insurance and at any cost could not get insurance due to pre existing conditions. I was about to get them insurance at anywhere between $385 to $435 a month under the Silver plan. Now you have to understand this state had signed up for Medicaid expansion so the premiums under the exchanges were relatively inexpensive. But the policy was.
Premiums were $385 a month
$750 deductible
$5 co-pay for medications
$25 co-pay for primary care
$100 co-pay for specialist
$25 co-pay for Blood work.
Now tell me is that a joke I don't think so. So if there telling it's a joke tell them to call me I will explain how the ACA exchanges work.
Now I have two sons that are in business I was in business for 28 years I know the employee based insurance business. My son has 82 employees he offered health Insurance when the ACA was passed he started shopping I advised him to do that. Now keep in mind there in a state where they had Medicaid expansion. So nobody was getting free medical care because of no insurance. He ended up paying 22% less to cover his employees and they were not junk policies.
So I will tell you that there were a lot of complaints for higher premiums but when I researched there original policy and was able to point out original policy were junk policies but there new policy under the ACA was not a junk policy so they were happy to pay the additional premium because now they knew they could not get cancelled.
Next up the Obama lie if you like you're doctor you can keep you're doctor. And that is 100% true. There were a lot of people under the exchanges that were buying insurance from different carriers. But what they were not aware of if you change carriers they all have a different network of doctors within there system. So these people should have checked there networks as to who came under there policies before they selected a carrier. There are thousands of networks throughout the country. Like said I was in business for 28 years I periodically change my carriers and every time I changed I use to get complaints from my employees that his doctor was not covered. But I explained how these networks work I told them to go back to the doctor and tell him. 100% of the time the doctor called that specific network and got on. These doctors are not aware of some of these networks all you have to do is ask. So there's thousands of networks and Fox News calls this out as an Obama lie. But this s**t happened all the time before the ACA. It was nothing new
What I did with the people I was helping is I called the government number where Obama had set up a very large team of insurance specialist and had these people ask questions and they fully understood what to look for when the went on line to select a carrier.
Fox News blamed Obama for everything that was wrong but it was not the ACA it was the carrier you selected due to not understanding how insurance companies operate. Don't forget there were 7 million people calling for insurance that had no idea how the industry operated they knew nothing about networks and how they operated. But if they called those specialist they would have explained how these carriers have networks to make sure you're doctor was in that network.
There is so much to the ACA it's a great bill and a lot of the negatives are just not true. Doctors around the country were raising there rates and told patients it's because of the ACA. I could explain red lining were carriers refuse to write policies in certain districts the 6 states in question do not have laws that make red lining illegal. It's not the ACA it's Republican controlled states that allow red lining.
But let me end it this way it's total lack of understanding as to how the system operates when purchasing medical insurance not the ACA
All the ACA did was set standards like They could not refuse insurance for pre-existing conditions, could throw someone off in they got sick, parents allowed to keep there kids on there policy till age 26. The mandate which required everybody to buy insurance because there was no incentive because they were getting free medical while we all paid for them. Medicaid expansion which gave government subsidies to the states for the poor and elderly under the age of 65. 1% penalty for not getting insurance a 3% tax on the corporate elite a small tax on employers with 50 or less employees that did not care health Insurance there were other things but these were the major issues.
