NATIONAL GET OUT OF THE DOGHOUSE DAY - Third Monday in July
National Get Out of the Doghouse Day is observed annually on the third Monday In July.
Generally, when you are âin the doghouseâ, you have fallen out of favor with someone, usually your spouse or significant other. However, you can also be âin the doghouseâ with a friend or your boss at work. National Get Out of the Doghouse Day is an opportunity to use all those good cliches and get you back in the big house where you belong.
Here are some tips to get âout of the doghouse.â
Put down the technology. If this is on your naughty list, donât use email, texting or other technology to apologize. A face to face or hand written apology is best.
Meet at a favorite coffee house. The purpose here is to start talking. Listen to what the other person has to say and do not be judgmental or defensive. Find out why you are âin the doghouseâ and give suggestions on how to you can improve or fix the issue.
Send flowers, chocolates or an appropriate gift. Include a hand-written note about how you are committed to fixing the issue. Do this AFTER you have already spoken. You will win extra brownie points as this will be unexpected. (Including brownies will garner additional points!)
HOW TO OBSERVE
One great way to get out of the doghouse is by bringing home some Colorado Jack Popcorn. Sweeten the deal with their legendary caramel or spice it up a bit with white cheddar & jalapeño. Share your best methods for #GetOutoftheDoghouseDay on social media.
HISTORY
Heidi Richards Mooney of Ft. Lauderdale, FL founded National Get Out of the Doghouse Day in 1999.

I can't wait until I get my brownies from all of those who have me in their doghouse. No C.O.D.'s, please, and sugar-free, if possible.
It is always good to hear from the ever-generous and benevolent AuntiE, within whose doghouse I forever reside.

It appears to be well ventilated. Also, I doubt anyone would blame you if you ran away from home.

You don't have to run away from home if you've already been thrown out.

Yeah, I guess that's one way of looking at it.

Well, we don't choose the doghouse because of its comfort and spaciousness.
