Sedgwick, Maine, the first town in the US to legalize any kind of food t***saction as free and legal in order to keep the right to produce raw milk, organic produce, free-range eggs, and more, is revolutionizing the way America keeps its food rights – including saying no to GMOs. In other words, it is the first town to declare food sovereignty while opposing both state and federal laws.

The town has passed an ordinance that protects citizens’ rights to “produce, sell, purchase, and consume any food of their choosing.” The ordinance laughs in the face of FDA regulations and their hodge-podge way of giving food a rubber stamp of approval, especially GMO. Three additional towns in Maine are expected to pass similar ordinances as well.

The move is somewhat similar to a move one England town made, where the citizens t***sformed their entire town’s landscape into a giant food-producing garden. Both are great examples of moving toward food sovereignty.

It isn’t just a declaration on the whim of a few city council members. There is a warrant added: “It shall be unlawful for any law or regulation adopted by the state or federal government to interfere with the rights recognized by this Ordinance.” This means that federal interference is prohibited in our food supply – at least in Maine. If you can’t get Monsanto out of the government, take the government out of your food. It’s a brilliant way around the convoluted system now in place that almost gave Monsanto the right to be exempt from federal prosecution for its poison food and which tries to hoist it upon the whole Nation without consent.

David Gumpert reports:

“What about potential legal liability and state or federal inspections? It’s all up to the seller and buyer to negotiate. “Patrons purchasing food for home consumption may enter into private agreements with those producers or processors of local foods to waive any liability for the consumption of that food. Producers or processors of local foods shall be exempt from licensure and inspection requirements for that food as long as those agreements are in effect.” Imagine that–buyer and seller can agree to cut out the lawyers. That’s almost un-American, isn’t it?”

A simple seller and buyer agreement is entered into where federal regulations can be bypassed by the seller agreeing to consume food grown by their neighbors organically in their garden or by the farm up the street with their own hormone-free dairy cows that customers have known for decades. It takes the feds and their dirty Monsanto money right out of the game. It is commercially grown food that is k*****g us all, after all - not locally grown food.

For those with their heads in a noodle about bypassing federal laws, the citizens of Maine have stated, “We the radicals who concocted this mutinous act of infamy believe that according to the Home Rule provisions of our State Constitution, the citizens of Sedgwick have the right to enact an ordinance that is “local and municipal in character.”

In Maine, citizens can take advantage of local bounty, seasonal organic crops, and the good-old-fashioned way we used to produce food without Big Ag and commercial interference. Rural America is putting the big city budget of Monsanto to shame with this innovative way of taking down the monopolizing food giant. It’s about time ‘radicals’ in every small town across this nation did the same.

I like this. Buyer of course settles his contract for the food by paying for it. Seller, has to supply good food. If the food is not good, reputation will be affected and nobody will buy his produce. Simple as that. Got sick cows---don't even try to provide raw milk.

You can bet this will never get reported on any lame stream media outlet. I would like to go back in a couple of years and see how successful this plan is. This is how our country is supposed to work. A lot of experiments in governance all over the country. Folks can see what works and what doesn't. Today all we have is a bloated central government trying to be all powerful. That is damned sure not working.

If our state legislators had the balls to do what they are elected to do, every state would have laws exempting their citizens from most federal laws, except for such acts as treason.

Or sell your contaminated food, make people sick or die and everyone lives with the consequence. Food safety laws are in place to prevent foodborn illness, they protect American family's and should be strengthened not either abandoned or manipulated by agribusiness.

Of course Kevyn, ... you are certainly one of "them." By them, I mean those who cannot live your life without the close and continuous oversight and help of the all powerful government. You, and those like you are the sheeple. You would be s***es, before you would ever live your lives having to depend only on your own ability to produce and survive.

The sheeple should have been born farm animals, since they want to live like animals, getting free food, free place to live, having someone make all their decisions for them (especially selecting the food), deciding how they live, and even how long they live (obamacare).

Utopia to you would be living in a government owned breeding pen, eating wh**ever government provided feed you received, and having your life preplanned as you support the s***e masters at the polls.

Man, you sure have a negative outlook on the world. I guess thinking big brother is going to keep you safe helps.

And another thing. You are really stupid if you honestly believe that the government (our legislators) gives a rats ass about what the food industry sells us as food. A few hundred thousand here, a few million there, and any food product or additive is "USDA Approved" for human consumption.

Monsanto could package and sell dog crap, as long as they continue to buy politicians. If you've got time, look into the government approved artificial sweetener "aspartame." The government is really looking out for our health on that one.

I'll take a chance on my local farmer over the government, any day.

Spot on analysis. Sheeple like little Kevyn are the whining pissants that run and cry when a door slams. Because those types cannot care for themselves, we all suffer.

The government inspects food and food processing facilitys for safety and sets standards so people are not poisoned. A little town in Maine likely dosn't have the lab facility's to check for foodborn illness. health inspections of resteraunts and food providers to prevent the spread of disease is hardly the government providing food or an infringement on commerce it is common sense and has saved many from sickness and death.

Trooper 745-Kevyn likes that imported food from China homegrown in human feces or farm raised fish fed with chicken droppings. All FDA approved. Good Luck America !!!

No imported food is inspected ever. The FDA is suppose to inspect US facilities once a year. They are under inspecting and these facilities only get inspected federally about once every 6 years. So that means 2011 days your food goes without even one small sample being taken. It is capitalism and the fact that if their food makes you sick you wont buy it is what keeps us safe not the FDA. They are muich to busy raiding small farms SWAT style for selling free range chicken eggs and raw milk to bother with the big corp food industry.
