Another limited angle on "h**e speech" for some members here

That is the part many do not get. The "sticks and stones" defense is totally failed. Words are too often far, far more damaging than any physical harm. Spank a child for some dangerous foolishness or disobedience and they are not scarred. Yell at them for being stupid and no-good, and they could be scarred for life. We had a highly insensitive language for centuries that caused needless harm to individual and groups. Words can be k**lers. Bringing awareness to the ways our speech can harm is just common decency, for the world. It is not "political correctness" but an injunction straight from the Bible. Derogatory speeches and comments about race, ethnic groups, countries, and religions violates God Order.

What does the Bible say about the power of speech (the tongue):

1 Peter 3:10 - For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Matthew 12:36-37 - But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. (Read More...)

Psalms 118:5 - I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, [and set me] in a large place.

Psalms 141:3 - Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

James 3:8 - But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

James 1:26 - If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion [is] vain.

Proverbs 10:19 - In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips [is] wise.

Proverbs 15:28 - The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

James 3:6 - And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Proverbs 12:18 - There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise [is] health.

Proverbs 15:4 - A wholesome tongue [is] a tree of life: but perverseness therein [is] a breach in the spirit.

Psalms 19:14 - Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

James 1:19 - Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Philippians 2:14 - Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Proverbs 13:3 - He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

The non-response to this thread is very painful. Forgive me, but it seems most have had their tongues removed on previous opinions by what the Bible says.

Maybe people are busy, and not available to stand before your throne to be judged?

Common decency, respect and dignity are no longer American values, we have abandoned those time honored attributes that made America the unique beacon of hope she once was. Now, we celebrate h**e, vitriol, summary judgment, retribution, and bigotry.

We have identified the mistakes of our sordid past - and are clinging to them, and desperately seeking to renew their potency. America has abrogated any claim to a higher moral status.

It never had a higher moral status, not from day one. But don't get me wrong, America is unique among nations in all of history.
