Excuses for not working are being eliminated one by one.

"House lawmakers passed legislation Friday that would make federal welfare recipients eligible for apprenticeship training programs, part of the Republican effort to address joblessness and underemployment by expanding the training available for non-college sk**led trades.

Dubbed the Accelerating Individuals into the Workforce Act, the bill would allocate $100 million in funding for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, the program that replaced welfare, to subsidize state programs that require TANF recipients to participate in apprenticeship programs in exchange for benefits. The legislation, which passed 377-34, allows states to subsidize up to 50 percent of the recipients' wage, and the remainder is covered by the employer."

We complain about able bodied people receiving assistance. This is a positive step to putting those people back on their feet.

I wonder who here will be against this, and why?

This sounds very good however, I would like to see some statistics on the number of job openings available for these apprentices. In general, low paying jobs require virtually no sk**ls and even those are disappearing.

They have been doing this on and off for more than 60 years. Republicans used to criticize it as a waste of money when the Democrats proposed it.

Then if you are saying it's a waste now, you must be republican.

If you are against it, then you must want people.on welfare to have no hope to get back on their feet.

Pick one.

Great plan but how many really want it to work? I seem to be more pessimistic as the day goes by. Reading the posts seems to lead me in that direction, but I will leave now for a brighter day ahead.
