Thanks, Don.
This brought back many wonderful memories. Some on OPP are aware that I have been a professional Flamenco dancer for most of my life. You've inspired me to pull out my old recordings and tapes and reminisce. I stopped dancing because I couldn't find a Flamenco guitarist in this berg. I did find a classical guitarist and had to trick her into playing some Spanish music. I guess she had too big an ego and stopped when she learned that, with a dancer or cantaor, the guitarist follows and creates his/her own falsettas to coordinate. I found that sad because, in a class she took from Pepe Romero, he recommended that she switch to Flamenco because she had much emotion. I stopped performing because I became bored with always dancing to the same taped music I already had.
FYI. I don't know if you've kept up with Paco de Lucia (now deceased) but my prime guitarist in NYC was an airline pilot who would arrange to have lay-overs in Denver so that he could enjoy jamming all night (or perhaps the entire weekend) with Paco. He always came back with lots of new stuff and I had to play second guitar (only rhythm and base line) to accompany him while he went through all he had learned that weekend. I sure do miss it as well as the juergas we had which lasted until breakfast. I tried that out here but people went home by midnight. That's when we really would be getting started back East. I might pick up the guitar and really learn to play now.
You might be interested in looking up Pepe Romero. He is part of the famous Romero family that play classical music. He is the only one of that family to play flamenco.
Thanks again. Your post really inspired me.
