I think there is more to it then the author wrote, I'm sure it is just a memo telling them that they need to do their jobs and inforce the law. I have always leaned conservative and really didn't follow politics until I was getting so pissed at all the draconian laws they make here in Cal. and started to pay a little more attention. I was already vested in the union and had no clue how far they are up the dems butt, when I asked my dad why do they always indorse the guy I wouldn't v**e for. So I stuck it out in the union because I had already had 12 years in and figured I was further ahead going for my pension, and just use the carpenter magazine that came every month and v**e for the opposite of who they indorsed. I have participated in several strikes over the last 35 years, and there are a lot of rules that are actual laws too. When I watch all these protests, I always thought to my self how come none of them are getting arrested(not just recently but over the last 35yrs) because when you protest/strike the law says you can't stand there, you must keep moving or your subject to arrest. Having the right to assemble peacefully, is just that, PEACEFULLY!! They want to have a protest, get a permit, ya better have one if you want to protest the protesters. I would guess that there are no "TRUMPed" up charges and they broke laws they had no clue they were doing.

Jail time really sucks. Most states won't sentence anyone to county jail for more than a year. 9 months for r**ting in the streets? 90 days for blocking traffic?

If charges are brought, there is evidence of a crime. If protesters are convicted, then they committed a crime.

The message being sent is clear. Remain within the law. If you do not you will be brought to justice. You have no right to break law nor infringe on other's rights.

Stop whining and pay attention. Your lawless days are over and as I've mentioned prior, the right is assuming the offense.

You made your bed. Now lay in it.

What I found ironic was the ' protesters' in Berkley destroying Starbucks and Bank of America's property and these two corporations supported Hillary!
Then it i***ts blocked traffic which endangered the lives of others perhaps in route to a hospital or a firetruck.
I assume most were the Millennial generationers who are out of control endangering others.

The article dealt specifically with protesting. The woman's march on DC caused no destruction. Of course, you passed that fact up. I imagine there might be occasions in which you disagree. Peaceful marching in protest might be something you just may, some day, feel like doing in order to get your point across. In this country our Constitution gives us the right of protest.

If you are arrested for simply marching, possibly with a sign, I'm sure you would be upset. Police actions like what has been occurring are the beginning of silencing the populace. It is the beginning of your First Amendment right's being squelched. It must be noticed early and prevented or it will spread to all of your other rights. By that time, you have become a s***e with no inalienable rights at all.

My point is that actions such as mentioned in the article must be recognized early in order for the U.S to remain free. This country is already becoming an oligarchy run by wealthy corporations. They've already taken over much of our e******ns. Did you really think you had a choice?

I have always had faith in this country BECAUSE of our Constitution. With more of our rights, such as unionizing, being usurped, this country will turn into one being led by a despot whose every will MUST be followed. Do you want your country governed by a Duterte who decides that he will get rid of the drug situation in his country by k*****g everyone - not only sellers but every user including those who are only suspected of using. Can you imagine being k**led only on the basis of a suspicion?

Did you ever look into what was occurring in DAPL? Those people were protesting peacefully! They brought no weapons and never r**ted but weapons WERE used against them. That instance is a very good example in micro of what could become standard. i.e., the government (ruled by the oligarchy) used everything to put them down - successfully.

There is still time to reverse the mistreatment of the people but we must act early enough to prevent its downfall.

I believe that every citizen must be aware of a sneaky and gradual destruction of what is known as democracy. If you think "make America great" means anything but keeping a government "of and by the people," I do wish you would take the time to look into our Constitution and Bill of Rights. By that I mean READ THEM! They must be protected.
