This was a knockoff for the pop community. I agree, nothing compares to the Halleluja Chorus from Handel's Messiah.

Personally I think both are great musical pieces. I've sang Handel's version dozens of times in choral groups and it's ALWAYS great.Cohen's song is not a knock off, it's another song entirely, and also Great.

True, knockoff only in the sense that the title is misleading for classics buffs.
