The number one reason most American Jews no longer keep kosher is...shrimp. Woody Allen once noted that God really did not mean for the Jews to give up shellfish...he just wanted them to stay out of some particularly mediocre Chinese restaurants in Brooklyn.

There are a lot of ethnically that ruin good shrimp particularly of southwest design.I don't care for the way they are smoked. Now thats very interesting but stupid

I don't live near a large city. Closest one is about 60 miles away. I, however, own and run an organic market -- will have to search a source out. ATM's around here didn't become the norm til about 5 or 6 years ago. That should give you a baseline, but hey, we have a local "drive-through" funeral home, complete with a large bay window!! I am not jesting here either!!

A drive through funeral home? I'm sorry, but that is Jeff Foxworthy stuff right there!!
Back to the topic. Crawdad tails are pretty much like shrimp when boiling. Thats all I have here.

I like crawdad tails. We do have freshwater shrimp farms around here -- more like crawdads, just a little larger, but at $16 - $18/lb. nope.

No, it's just that, and I'm sure you just forgot because it's not in the news -- EXCEPT on the west coast, that all that lovely contamination from Japan because of the contaminated nuclear plant that continues to leach away makes its way across to the west coast, along with all the stuff from the tsunami that came with the earthquake. It certainly had left the forefront of my consciousness, not being in the news daily of late -- until Alex said something -- and I had a light bulb go off.

YEAH...I knew about the debri and crap coming from the West Coast ... and probably all those people living over there and who fish there too will one day be contaminated and sick with something no one will even consider as fatal happenings...... We never know what comes out of our air.. nor the seas either for that matter... I was thinking of the Gulf of Mexico... and the oil that was spilled there... Oil doesnt just evaporate .... I warned my kids not to eat fish or shrimp which came from there.. but I'm sure they have... kids dont pay attention to stuff like that...

See how easy it was for ME to shelve away that nasty BP disaster that literally made me weep and I have family who live in Alabama and Mississippi -- and quite frankly, for those folks -- I would "like" to believe that things are going back to normal. My cousin doesn't talk about it. Years ago, when I was responsible for 18 greenhouses up north, just from the concrete floors of the greenhouses getting buildups of pesticides and fungicides I now have permanent respiratory issues, not hideous, but noticeable. It's up to us to be aware and vigilant. I think that's part of the reason I started my organic market.

The poor earth and all its waters are becoming a favorable dumping ground and an experimental nuclear test site and when we eat things that are already bottom feeders it's risky shrimp after all along with lobsters clams oysters I'm getting hungry all clean up our screw ups and natural screw ups. Now if they make such a good product called imitation crab. (Again) why not imitation shrimp? Some things can't be replicated? Like bottom feeders of a particular order? I love em grilled!!! And you. Prefer boiling? Same conclusion gotta watch em or else they're rubber or toast! Now back to my imitation crab salad on c*****rs. TOWN HOUSE of course.

 Me too, hungry that is!! I'm ready to go make myself some oyster stew -- oysters from the Chesapeake Bay. I used to tong for my own oysters when I wasn't so landlocked. A park ranger taught me how to throw a shrimp net down off the coast of Florida. Sigh.

Soon we wont' have to worry about all the i******s pouring into our country draining us of all resources.... With all the contamination from what we put in our ground and air, we Americans will be heading for Mexico and let them have this poisoned atmosphere we've created for ourselves.
