Crazy, again I state to have a simple understanding of the BIBLE please read "Did The Catholic Church Give Us The Bible" by David W. Daniels.
It lays out the time line of scripture and the different routes between the catholic church and Christianity.

OK...Mr. B is correct. But I guess I am not a "good" Catholic, as the Old Testament AND the New Testament are both a part of my beliefs. My belief in God just "is". No justification needed. All one has to do is listen. The path is shown every day.

Ah-men! Ah-men!

You are a good Catholic. We all are in a daily struggle to live our lives in accordance with His message; and like everyone, you & I both fail. I simply can not see how he feels that Baptism is contrary to Scripture. I'll be sure to ask a priest how we need Baptism when Christ's ultimate sacrifice saved us anyway.

It's an interesting point but I fail to see how Baptism is unnecessary. Baptism does forgive us for all of our sins, primarily, at that point, the stain of Original Sin, simply from being born human as descendants of Adam & Eve but it also forgives us for all of our personal sins to that point.

The sacrament of Penance, now called Reconciliation forgives for all of our sins from Baptism or since our last Reconciliation. My mother told me years ago, in the 1950s, that Catholics had a lower rate of suicide than other denominations and that it was ascribed to that sacrament. I do not know the veracity of it but it would be interesting to know.

Our initiation into the faith begins with Baptism. Penance or Reconciliation occurs at about the age of seven or the age of Reason, knowing right from wrong. Confirmation welcomes us into adulthood. What is wrong with these things?

That's very judgmental of you. Thanks for sharing. Maybe, you should repent now. Your problem is that you are placing Church tradition above Scripture. A common problem with Catholics. What does the Bible say about salvation?

Romans 9:9-10

9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Now, my eyes aren't that great, but I don't see baptism mentioned in these verses. Do you?
Here is my last reply to him. This is why he block... (show quote)

No, and not in defense of Catholics, but there is this verse.

1 Peter 3:21 ►

King James Version
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

I hardly have the time to read what I do now, in addition to my own writings plus a time consuming hobby of learning piano and trying my hand at composing songs. In addition, I do not need the exposition of one simple person in understanding different routes the Bible. My understanding stems from my simple readings and to the guidance of generations of Catholic scholars. I believe their collective undertandings far outweigh that of just one person.

I noticed you wrote again in your posting. Have we exchanged on this matter before?

Crazylibertarian, I don't believe that we have exchanged before on this.
David W. Daniels is one man but has dev**ed his life to JESUS and helping people to understand the walk that he has experienced. He also has multiple YouTube videos.

I am sure that this David W. Daniels is scholarly but I remain far too busy otherwise

I don't know what their problem is. I can think of at least three medical conditions that would prevent someone from being baptized. So it's obvious that it is not a requirement for salvation, or those people would automatically go to hell.

I do not pretend to be able to t***slate the words of the Holy Scripture into what it means to me in everyday life. I consider that to be up to my Pastor who , during the sermon after the Gospel, tells us how it applies to living a spiritual life, as best we can.

You have given the best explanation that a lay person can. Appreciate all of your posts, though, Mr. B. You are usually right on the money, along with lindajoy and a few others.

Thank you. That means a lot to me. Trying to educate these people is a thankless job.

Folks will either recognize God and let Him into their life, or not. Hope that "Him" doesn't raise the ire of that gal that posted a day or 2 ago who insists God is a "She"....she is a nut!

Please provide those 'at least three medical conditions that would prevent someone from being baptized.' I am very curious.

She also believes Jesus is the devil. I'm not sure, but I think demonic possession is the only thing that explains her beliefs.

One would be someone in an iron lung. Anyone hooked up any kind of life support. Someone with a suckling chest wound...

Not a single one precludes a baptism. Baptism only requires a very small amount of water, even an eyedroplet, on the forehead.

Try again.
