A man owned a small ranch in Montana.

The Montana Work Force Department claimed he was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to interview him.

"I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," demanded the agent.

"Well," replied the farmer, "there's my farm hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus he gets free room and board."

"The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $150 per week plus free room and board.

"Then there's the half-wit. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here.

"He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night.

"He also sleeps with my wife occasionally."

"That's the guy I want to talk to...the half-wit," said the agent.

"That would be me," replied the rancher.

Great post Slatts. Self employed people have to pay their employees first, even if it means they short themselves.

That's like Lee Trevino told a woman who stopped and asked him how much he charged for mowing the yard and he told this beautiful blond that he had a deal with the lady of this house (his own) that lady in this house allowed him to sleep with her. The lady asking the question threw that big Cadillac in gear and left the area.

Yeah, on the basis of what one does or accomplishes, it would make sense that many deserve to be paid nothing. In my case, the Sgt. Major pays me to simply stay out of the way.

A small ranch in Montana is what, about 5 square miles? $10 a week is a lot of money to wonder around trying to find a cow, and the bourbon is required to convince yourself that you're good enough to be a half-wit.

How does a 'nit-wit' compare to a 'half-wit,' Doc, medically speaking, that is I've been called both. Which is worse

In answer to your question Slat

I'm sure the Sgt Major can (medically speaking)explain to you the difference
She would be more qualified to pontificate on that subject than the rest of us
