OK. We're going to play a little game. If you are illiterate, I feel sorry for you, because this should be entertaining. I want you to think of a character from a book. Please limit it to best sellers, so everyone will have had the chance to read it.

List this characters name, and everyone will try to guess which book it's from. I'll start with this one, and I'll bet no one gets it. The name is Syrinx. Any guesses? Come on. Someone should know this.

If this is the Nymph from Greek Mythology then the book is probably Bullfinch's Mythology.

Nope. Wrong book. I'll give you a hint. It's Science Fiction, and a best seller.

WE HAVE A WINNER! Good job. I'm reading that series right now. Gosh, it's long. 400 pages read, and I'm not halfway through the first book.

Now, since you guessed correctly, you get to choose the next one. Whatcha got?

I c***ted on that last one, I haven't read any new Science fiction in a while so I looked it up and picked the most likely.

Here is yours: Sidney Carton

Was it written in the last twenty years. If not, I've probably never read it. Or if I did, I don't remember it.

No, most of what I remember wasn't written in the last 40 years. Most of it isn't memorable or I haven't read it.

This character is from Dickens Tale of Two Cities and Sydney Carton is the Englishman who sacrifices himself by goingt to the guillotine so that his double, a french nobleman can escape with the woman they both love. She married the Frenchman. Most memorable speech in all of Dickens work: “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.”
