Ah, a trip down memory lane. I received the enormous sum of $125 a month including combat pay as a staff Sgt in 1944

I am a vet of WW II, 89 years of age and on the downward slope of Life's path. I served in the infantry in Europe, five campaigns, second wave on D-Day and spent Christmas of '45 in a foxhole on the Marche-Hotten line north of Bastogne. I have looked at our country as it is today and wonder, were the two wounds and endless days of killing horror worth it?? Did my buddies sacrifice themselves for this? Is this a reward for our efforts?

I am not given to politicizing or engaging in political discussions since I have found that there are three subjects which should be far removed from normal discussion, one's political beliefs, one's religious beliefs and their marital or family status. However, in the short time I have been a member of this group, I have been amazed at the lack of intelligent thought and rampant display of intolerant messages which have been posted. I do believe that some members get their jollies by irritating others since many of the statements are clearly poorly considered and seem designed to irritate, antagonize and frustrate those who are desirous of intelligent discourse. I fear for the fate of my grandchildren if the present trend continues. The world is becoming irrational, argumentative and intolerant of rational thought. It is time for us all to seriously consider the situation and, in common cause, try to solve the problems so that this country might return to what I, and my buddies, fought for 70-some years ago.

In any event, MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HEALTHY, HAPPY and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR to all!!!!

Anyone we want it to be. Subscribing to the idea that the ONLY persons elected are going to be either a dem or a repub, is exactly what they want. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Those two parties account for 98% of total campaign contributions and many people equate amount of money to electability. That is only true if we MAKE it true.

Many people believe that their vote doesn't count, unless they vote for the winner. That is ALSO crap. If every person who voted refused to vote for either a dem or a repub, there'd be another parties candidate elected. Sometimes, ONLY repubs and dems run and that's too bad, but there is usually another candidate available for Federal elections. If WE don't do the right thing, we can hardly expect anyone else to.

We make too much of stated party affiliations. Politicos change coats to suit the times. Check party affiliations of elected legislators. How many have switched party affiliations while in office. Besides, how many truly represent the party's platform which they have embraced in order to win election. How many party planks have been supported during their term in office? Throughout history the true statesman has been noticeable by his absence. The world could use one now!!

Do all these people screaming for impeachment not realize that Joe Fucking Biden will be the president if Obama is impeached? That is the best reason in the world for just biting the bullet until 2016.

Maybe we should give Obama credit for planning ahead? He chose Biden as a running mate because he knew the people would turn summersaults to keep Ol'Joe, "The Gaffe", safe in the attic.

I wonder, when was the last time a Republican agreed with ANYTHING a Democrat did? I can't recall, so this kind of thing is boring. The same is true for Democrat complaints about Republicans. It's all just so much noise pollution, but has no more consequence than that.

This is a statement which cannot be refuted. However, it has no bearing on the subject at hand. Possibly one of the problems facing the American people is that we cannot, or do not , stay on subject when in a meaningful discussion

Why is the GOP hiring a lawyer for $500 per Hr
Why is Howdy Doody Goody hiring a lawyer at $500 per Hr
Why is the GOP blocking the vote for min wage of. $10.10 per Hr

How many lawyers are in the GOP why do we have to hire these $500 an hr lawyers when the GOP is full of lawyers. Are they to stupid to handle it in House. The TP folks on OPP think they are intellectually sound so tell me why.

I do believe that if the "430 Lawyers in Congress' were to engage in GOP legal activities the authorities might, rightfully, claij "Conflict of Interest" and cause a bit of a problem in the pursuance of the matters.

Well old sarge your saying he's not considered black well i disagree and scrutinized because of it, for some reason people like you and your beliefs which have a right too under the Constitution have never been judged simply because of your skin color! Obama has gone through more scrutiny than any President before him ( i wonder why)

Read my original submission. I never said he was not considered black. I merely said he was a mulatto, neither black nor white. Why do you refer to "people like me and our beliefs" I simply made a statement of fact which should not have stirred any other reactions along ideological or racial lines lines. Pray tell, where did you get the glasses you used to determine my skin color by reading my printed comments???

Sure leberals champion some outrageous causes which is why I'm not a democrat and i'm not a republican either their champion agenda is solely to oppose democrats at all cost not to pass legislation that help America sure we have a black President but he wasn't elected by Republicans but by minorities which dominate America! While i don't agree with Democrats or Republicans i have to vote the lesser of two evils!

I am a bit disturbed by many statements made by contributors I am a WW II vet and I do believe that we should be attentive to their statements and beliefs but the statements should be based on fact and not ideological direction.

Point one: The GOP has passed many bills of various stripe which are languishing on Ol' Harry's desk. I am sure that many of the GOP bills are not worthy of enacting but, bring them up on the floor for debate and let the public, the employers of the do-nothing politicians. see what the proposals contain.

Point two: Obama is not a black president!! He is born of a white, caucasian, mother and a black, African father. He is therefore a Mulatto, half white and half negro. He is not African-American since that cognomen refers to descendants of black slaves brought to this country prior to the Civil War
