Do you understand what the difference between a republic and a democracy is? More precisely, do you understand that they are not mutually exclusive, that most democracies are republics at the same time? And that one of those countries is the US?

Republic basically only means “not a monarchy”. Do you have a monarch? No? Good, you’re living in a republic. Democracy basically only means that the people have the authority to decide legislation, be that direct or indirect. Now, who makes your laws? Your Senators, your Representatives, which the people elect. So you indirectly decide legislation. Good, you are living in a democracy.

Full democracies however are also expected to adhere to a few other principles, e.g. the free and equal vote. Free means that everybody gets the same opportunity to vote, i.e. no voter suppression. Equal means that all votes have the same weight, i.e. no EC as it is today. That’s why the US is considered a flawed democracy.

But you are a Republican. You benefit from the flaws and you know it. Therefore you pretend that the flaws are good and you don’t just cling to them because it gives you an unfair advantage. We all can clearly see that, there is no sense to be trying to hide it. So please spare us the “We are not a democracy.” nonsense. We don’t buy it.

You never fail to disappoint.
As usual you had to turn this into a slugfest!

Democracy and constitutional republic are two common forms of government in the modern world. In both these forms of government, the people select the head of the state and other officials under a free electoral system. Moreover, these two systems share many similarities, and many people use these two names interchangeably.

Democracy is a form of government where power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or through freely elected representatives. The word “democracy” comes from the Greek words: “demos” (which refers to people) and “kratia” (which refers to power or authority). Therefore, democracy is a system of government that gives power to the people. The concept of democracy has evolved over the years. Democracy originated as direct democracy, where people can decide on policy initiatives without using legislative representatives as proxies. However, the most common form of democracy today is representative democracy, where people elect officials to create policy and laws on their behalf.

Moreover, freedom of speech and assembly, inclusiveness and equality, consent, right to life, voting, and minority rights are the foundations of democracy. Furthermore, we can observe four main elements in a democracy. They are a political system where the government can be chosen and replaced through free and fair elections, active participation of citizens in politics and civic life, protection of the rights of all citizens, and the rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens.

A constitutional republic is a system of government in which the head of state and other officials are representatives of the people. They are elected by the people, and they govern the state within an existing constitution, typically a written constitution. Moreover, the head of the state or the representatives do not have uncontrolled power as their power is limited by the constitution. John Adams, the second president of the United States, described a constitutional republic as “a government of laws, and not of men”.

Constitutional republics generally have a separation of powers. This means executive, legislative, and judicial powers are separated into distinct branches. In addition, there is no single officeholder has a claim of unlimited power. The United States of America, India, Republic of Ireland, and Ghana are examples of constitutional republics.

Furthermore, Aristotle was the first to explore this concept in his works on politics. However, in practice, this term is not very clear. In real-world politics, there are republics where the head of state can ignore the constitution. There are also democratic monarchies with unwritten constitutions and where the monarch is not the head of government.

You’re correct, but we should post a list of obvious trolls.

TJKMO for a start. Over 6500 posts (and none of intelligent substance) in less than 6 months seems like trolling to me. This one makes a lot of false claims.

Airforceone for another. Either drunk or trolling. This one makes a lot of false claims too.

Kevyn aka $hitgibbon qualifies. Totally combative with no discernable thoughts on all posts.

Milosia earns no points for rational thought, also very combative.

Bad Bob (5b, Bad Bob Bull$hitting Blogging Buffoon) only posts memes, never any rational thought.

Federally indicted Hemmorroid, this one works overtime to insult others and offers nothing, zero, NADA worthy of consideration.

Rascal Riley, A canadian who crosses the border to stick it's nose in just to stir stuff up.

Many of the rest are just sadly misinformed, not trolls but have TDS blocking their cognitive abilities!

What kind of a bug is this? We've been invaded by literally millions of them from morning till now. I came home from work to a fog of them.
Changed clothes, went to Tractor Supply, and bought a gallon of concentrated spray stuff.
I'm about to go put the hate on em. I just wonder what they are, and why so many so fast.

If it is a flat bug, 7/16 to 5/8" across and dark in color it is probably a "stink" bug (my guess based upon what I could tell from the picture). Another gift from China as is the Wuhan flu!
(Stink bug top picture).
The Assassin bug looks similar but has longer rear legs and body. It is a beneficial insect that eats the stink bugs and several other pests. (Assassin bug bottom picture).

Hope this helps.

Hertz is getting rid of 30,000 Teslas that it bought and nobody wanted to rent, so here’s your chance to get a used EV cheap. But should you buy one? As our favorite YouTube auto mechanic Scotty Kilmer might say, “What, are you nuts?” Here’s why it’s a deal you show pass on...

A big salute to Jessica Tapia, who fought back after losing her PE teacher job at Jarupa Valley High School in Riverside, California. She was fired because she’s a conservative Christian who refused to violate her faith by bending to the school’s pro-LGBTQ agenda, which includes using “preferred pronouns,” letting students use whichever locker room they claim to feel like using, and hiding their “gender non-conforming” decisions from their parents. Tapia sued the school district and just accepted a $360,000 settlement. But I agree with the commentator who said, “There should have been another zero on that.”

There are several who regularly post on this site. They are not attempting to present any rational, thought-provoking ideas to defend their positions. They post to incite and agitate.
What is the best approach to dealing with these trolls?

My thoughts are:
1.) Ignore them completely. They want attention and when they do not get the desired result, they will wither and
die on the vine.
2.) If we feel it necessary to respond, do not try to present facts. Do not confuse them with facts, their mind is
made up! You will never convince them of the truth, and it will not matter anyway because their goal is to
agitate not to present a differing well thought out discussion. They are not capable of reasoning.
3.) If we must respond, let's use short concise responses. Some good ones could be liar, troll, bless your heart, etc.

Your thoughts on the best troll repellant, please.

There are no innocent adults in Gaza! They allowed Hamas to control them by voting them into power.

Just like the voters who put the current third term of obama into power. You are complicit in the destruction of America. Not victims, but active participants!
