I stirred up a lot of vitriol from non-Catholics on OPP when I wrote along these lines previously. One of the major arguments presented was that all that is necessary for salvation os Jesus' death. Well what good was Chris's death if you don't live a life in accordance with his teachings?

Many of you cited various scriptures telling me I would go to hell for being Catholic. For each and every one of you, try this one on for size. It'a directly from the King James. Christ's death is worth nothing of you embark on a life of sin.

Faith Without Works Is Dead
James CHapter 2, 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

OK, pray tell, what is a "true Christian"? Is it the Catholics? Eastern Orthodox? Baptists? Methodists? Episcopalian? Coptic? AnaBaptists? Puritans? Even the Puritans killed a few "witches" in Salem. It's curious, and inquiring minds want to know.
And what variety were the participants in the Spanish Inquisition? If I recall, they were sent by the Pope to convert the then-current residents of Spain. There surely appears to be hate and killing in their mode of conversion. And then there's the Crusades, that wiped out the entire city of Jerusalem at one point. If that's not killing, I'd love to hear what is. And would you consider Jim Jones of Jonestown fame to be a "true Christian"?
And then there's Jim and Tammy Fae Baaker who bilked their followers out of millions of dollars, as Jimmy Swaggert does to this day. Are they true Christians?
There seems to be some fatal flaws in your logic here ... or maybe there isn't any.

After centuries of torturing and killing anyone who dared not to believe, burning any books or literature that had anything to do with any other beliefs, wiping out people and cultures such as the Gnostics that had societies built around their beliefs, you can say they "won" in a fashion. Christians have killed off and destroyed too many people and cultures to count. Even now hard right "christians" want to jam their beliefs into laws that non believers have to follow.

Personally I'm of the opinion that highly religious environments have a way of killing creativity and bannishing or persecuting people who don't follow their beliefs. Centuries of people being killed for refusing to believe has genetically disposed a number of people to be believers, believing is a different thing than thinking.
