SANTIAGO, April 26 (Reuters) - A 15,600-year old footprint discovered in southern Chile is believed to be the oldest ever found in the Americas, according to researchers.

The footprint was first discovered in 2010 by a student at the Universidad Austral of Chile. Scientists then worked for years to rule out the possibility that the print may have belonged to some other species of animal, and to determine the fossil's estimated age.

Karen Moreno, a paleontologist with the Universidad Austral who has overseen the studies, said researchers had also found bones of animals near the site, including those of primitive elephants, but determined that the footprint was evidence of human presence.

Moreno said this was the first evidence of humans in the Americas older than 12,000 years.
"Little by little in South America we're starting to find sites with evidence of human presence, but this is this oldest in the Americas," she said.

The article suggests a crack down on those hiring undocumented workers and putting them in jail. This would certainly discourage companies from this criminal behavior but it would need to be the corporate leaders not supervisors who were locked up. Here is an even better idea that would in short time discourage economic migration. A whistleblower protection act that gives an undocumented immigrant a green card for turning in the companies who hire them. This in the short term is counterintuitive but in short time no one in their right mind would use undocumented sweat shop labor knowing that any undocumented employee would be rewarded for throwing them under the bus and having them thrown in prison.

Pope Francis announces large donation to caravan migrants stranded in Mexico

The Catholic Church meets the needs of thousands of stranded migrants

Pope Francis has donated $500,000 to assist migrants stranded at the United States-Mexico border and throughout Mexico, the Vatican announced Saturday.

The news comes as media attention surrounding the border crisis wanes, likely due to the 2020 presidential election kicking into high gear.

What are the details?
The Vatican said funds will be distributed between 27 projects among 16 Mexican dioceses and congregations, all of which requested assistance to continue providing migrants with basis necessities like food, water, and shelter.

Peter's Pence, which issued the funds, said additional funds are necessary because media attention surrounding the crisis has decreased, resulting in a decrease of humanitarian aid.

The group said in a statement:

In recent months, thousands of migrants have arrived in Mexico, having travelled more than 4,000 kilometres on foot and with makeshift vehicles from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. Men and women, often with young children, flee poverty and violence, hoping for a better future in the United States. However, the US border remains closed to them.

In 2018, six migrant caravans entered Mexico, for a total of 75,000 people; the arrival of other groups was announced. All these people were stranded, unable to enter the United States, without a home or livelihood. The Catholic Church hosts thousands of them in the hotels within dioceses or religious congregations, providing basic necessities, from housing to clothing.
Peter's Pence said "regulated and transparent use of the resources" will be accounted for before they are assigned to local communities.

Peter's Pence is a large collection of funds at the Pope's disposal "to provide emergency assistance to those in need because of natural disaster, war, oppression, and disease," according to the group's website.

Why doesn't he just invite them to live inside the walls of the Vatican???

The vast majority of Americans see the dog and pony show for what it is; the Orange Chicken Little telling his racist base that the sky is falling. It isn’t, there is a humanitarian crisis of sorts caused by Trumps failed policy, nothing more. The entire thing could be rectified by expediting hearings to determine if applications for political asylum are legitimate in the cases they aren’t deny residency and repatriate the applicant, where they are welcome the refugees to rebuild their lives in the US and get them on the track to employment, housing and eventually citizenship. All Trump needs to do and is sworn to do is follow the law.
