I think you need to look at where social welfare really started.

The females of the wealthy started to go to college in increasing numbers.


The males didn't wish to see them in their working envirment.

At that time there was a little empathy for the suffering of the poor.

While the rest of the thread has been about the the business end of the economy let's not forget about the working stiff's end . Claims that wages for workers are rising are a total fabrication. Real wages are still stuck in the 1970s level. Inflation has taken any nominal gains made by hourly workers and transferred them to the business owners. The idea that workers are better off is a fabrication.

The unemployment rate figures are also bogus and politically motivated BS. During his campaign Trump said those numbers were lies as the unemployment rate fell under the Obama administration. Trump's followers said the real rate was related to the labor force participation rate. Those people who were thrown out of work during 'the great recession' are still unemployed. They are just not counted anymore due to Republican efforts to limit unemployment roles at the state level.
The LFPR has not budged. If Trump were as consistent as Sicilianthing, he would have to acknowledge either that unemployment rates dropped significantly under the Obama administration or he would use the same metric he used during his campaign to measure his own administration.
Trump would have to acknowledge that the 'true' unemployment rate is the same under his administration as under the Obama administration.
