Can't say I blame the protesters for that one. The lowering of the flag was symbolic and wasn't physically harming anyone. The police were the ones that initiated the violence. BTW, that WAS an anti-Vietnam rally and I contend that whatever violence happened in the course of protesting the war was not planned but provoked, while the war they were protesting was an exercise in nothing less than premeditated genocide. And what exactly were we defending anyway? The North Vietnamese won that war. They chased us out and Saigon fell to the communists - and yet back in America we carried on like nothing happened. It's one thing to rattle sabers and to justify military action by calling it a defense against a threat to the American way of life (which is exactly what the war hawks were saying) but when you loose and the enemy leaves you alone, it kind of takes the truth out the sermon.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the deficit either, but what I call crazy is the fact that we've been building up this deficit for the past 30 years and only just decided it's not a good idea. It's not like Obama came in and just cranked it up. Almost all of the deficit increase since he took office is in overdue payments on debt incurred during previous administrations and it doesn't help that the dollar is worth much less now than it was when most of these debts were incurred. Then you add interest on top of all that because you KNOW we have to pay interest on debt.

I'm never sure if people are just too stupid to figure this out or if they simply refuse to acknowledge basic math for the sake of having a scapegoat to blame. Either way, they come off looking very stupid.

You must be one of those who at least understands the concept because you explained it in your post... You said "the National Deficit is unreachable to fix for many generations." That means there will be future presidents that will inherit the deficit and don't be surprised when future idiots blame the future president for all of it.

Fact is - you take the due payments on debt incurred in previous administrations out of the equation and Obama winds up looking real good. When it comes to new spending, Obama doesn't even come close to Bush.

For some reason, no one seems to care much about the National Deficit, as well as the various states Deficits to add to it. The country is bankrupt, far past bankrupt actually. I care, and I trust Boehner cares as well to where he will continue trying to take measures to bring it down, even to the Govt shutdowns. Every budget passed is raising that Dept Limit, further and further into the red. Obama and his Dems obviously don't care. Real money or play money, they don't care and spend it just the same- and faster than you can say "don't."

Why must the government always put the topic of "Social Security" as one of their main topics about cutting finances? They should not have anything at all to do with what belongs to any senior person at all. We need a separate business (or whatever) to handle everything for social security and the federal government needs "HANDS OFF" completely. Their finances should be handled by the income tax received only and nothing more. The government has no right to continually throw social security in our face all of the time. Social security belongs to all of the seniors who have paid in it for years and years - not the federal government.

Most Americans want a better healthcare system. The Republicans couldn't come up with anything. Obama did. Our democracy voted on it and every time Obamacare came out on top because most people actually WANT it.

The Republicans can't stand it. They tried 41 times to get rid of it and each time the American majority said no - we want to keep it.

Obama is not the one threatening to shut down the government, he's just the one making sure people understand that's what the Republicans are willing to do to win their little game. The Republicans are the ones threatening to shut down the government if Obamacare isn't defunded because obviously, they aren't satisfied with the will of the people.

Thank God most Americans aren't stupid enough to fall for the Tea Party lies and antics. It saves me from saying that the GOP is the biggest threat to the American people.
