Even though I don't believe any more, the teachings in the new testament have great value, Caring ,sharing, forgiveness etc. Unfortunately in todays world the powerful have maneuvered us into a position that hardly expresses the teachings of Jesus or our core beliefs. As long as we fight against each other we will never be able to tie things together.

For 1 I can find no reason disagree with you about this issue. Could that be a start?

Man kind of needed a god to put some hope in their miserable existence. Some men needed god to further their own ambitions,Medicine man, preacher,Shaman snake oil salesman etc. The concept of a powerful being who spoke only to them kept them in power just like today's ministers, preachers, snake oil salesmen and so on.

I won't disagree with this. That is part of what I said in different words.

What I feel is needed is what sort or code or core of reason do we use in the here & now to tie things together?

Now now people I just think we can get by by not calling people twits.

Can we just agree that what comes out of Washington is less than we deserve as Americans no matter what party they are from.

Lets just say that if there are any twits there sure are a lot in Washington.

Floyd I disagree about needing god as a core. I believe people develop a set of values and that's what is their core. For example, take a man born on an island with no exposure to god or religion, don't you think that the man wouldn't have a core set of values even though he wasn't reborn or whatever. The idea that unless your saved you would be damned to hell regardless of the life you led is just ridiculous.

I guess what is needed is what we will call this core.
I used God as the core to relate it to how God is used now.

Most groups off people through out time have had a god.
Now lets say they must have made them up. So I say that would seem to show that man kind needed a God.

That said I don't have any solid proof that there is a god or not. But there seems to be a need for man kind to have a god. Or at least it was in the past.

"Perhaps both science and religion need some rethinking, as both are guilty of taking proven fact, mixing it with supposition and pet theories, and presenting the whole thing as a fait accompli".

Can you give some examples of religion using "proven facts"?

This is an issue that is mostly based on faith.
I can not prove to you that there is or is not a God.
I will not be swayed one way or the other by your views.

That said if there is a God for real or if he was made up by man we have a God.

It is what we need to have as a core for our existence.

Sadly people use God to rally some people against others.

Okay, quick, without looking. How much did you pay from your last paycheck for Medicare taxes? Don't know, do ya?

You know I am self employed & do my own taxes so I see all the numbers. But with out going back & looking at my tax forms I could not tell you the numbers.

Is there any doubt of the side the army would take? It is the side of money.

If changes can't be made with in the system the system will die. If peaceful actions do not work. the mess will be too great to overcome. Check out how the police are being armed to step in when any group will try to be heard. No matter what you think any real threat from massed people will result in a police state.

In my town the ERs are filled with illegals who don't pay. Obamacare won't solve this

That is a cause for concern. I say the leaders we have choose to seek making messes out of any thing they put their hands on.

When Congress tries to solve one problem they make at least one more.

These laws seem to satisfy those that say whats in it for me or nothing in it is for me so I won't support it.

I have a son in law who is a doctor with a practice for an emergency room @ a hospital. He has to treat all who use the emergency room. At this time many use the emergency room & don't pay. So with Obamacare in place all should be able to pay. So it would seem that he shouldn't be any worse off if not better.

Liberals have taken over this site?

Hardly.
What I find interesting, and frustrating, is that, as a liberal, I have many disagreements with the current state of our government, but am finding little room for voicing my criticisms. Our situations, especially the federal financial miasma, are decades in the making. I think an honest discussion of that would be helped by thinking in the long run, but often the discussion turns on: it's all Obama's fault or it's all Bush's fault (and you can throw in Reagan or Clinton, depending on your political persuassion).
If we could get past the idea that the "current
administration": and by that I mean Obama nowl; Bush in the first decade of this century; Clinton; Reagan;etc., is the source of all evil perhaps the dialogue would be more civil and we wouldn't have to have ghettoized blogs where one side owns the forum. Whether liberal or conservative.

I will keep up that the problems are coming from Congress & Congress is run by big money. We can keep blaming one side or the other but as long as we do that no progress will be made in righting the wrongs. It is entirely in the game plan of big money for us to keep bickering with each other while they pick our pockets.
