What a skewed view.if we didn't have 10 to 15 million illegal aliens running around in our country there might actually be a place for the homeless to call home . And our dollar would go further our health care wouldn't be over burdened. Our schools might be able to teach our kids at a higher level if they didn't have to pause the lessons while the immigrants get them translated. History is not your forte, is it? Crimea was a part of Russia for some 300 plus years until the 1950s when Kruschev, himself a Ukrainian, decided that Crimea should be a part of Ukraine rather than Russia. In your imaginary scenario, did an American who became the premier of Russia decide to give Alaska to us? Nope, we paid for it. Do a little research, or better still, get someone to do it for you and explain the big words.

eden, Some things never change. Russia has always been ruled by an extremely autocratic leader, from the Tzar to Putin, just about all of them were terrible dictators. They have always pursued a foreign policy of expansion. That explains the nutty statement that they own Alaska because it was once owned by Czarist Russia.
The big example is that Russia must control the countries of Eastern Europe. Russia has been devastated three times since the 1800s by a massive invasion from the west. This policy is understandable, but it just won't bring Russia the security it seeks. Russia's future depends on integrating into the European system. The problem is that Russia is not, or ever has been a democracy in any sense of the word.
