Missionaries Travel From Africa To Bring The Gospel To United Methodist Church
Just to inform all you liberals, this is satair from “The Bee”
https://babylonbee.com/news/missionaries-travel-from-africa-to-reach-the-united-methodist-church?utm_source=The%20Babylon%20Bee%20Newsletter&utm_medium=email

U.S. — A group of devout Christian missionaries has arrived all the way from Africa to reach the United Methodist Church and tell them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Upon hearing of the UMC's beliefs on life and social issues, a group of African believers felt a strong prodding from the Holy Spirit to venture into an entirely foreign culture and bring the Gospel to a dark and godless place.

"If we do not go, who will?" asked Abosede Adeyemi, a Nigerian Christian burdened to reach lost Americans. "These United Methodists are in urgent need of the Good News. It appears they have never read a Bible before. That is why we are launching a mission deep into the heart of the United States to tell them about Jesus Christ."

Adeyemi's church held several nights of prayer and fasting in preparation for sending off the team of missionaries. "God be with them," said church member Davu Negedu. "America is a dangerous, unpredictable place, but the Lord has commanded us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel, so we will send these people to the United Methodist Church to teach them what the Bible says."

Though the church had concerns about the missionaries' safety in the United States, everyone was joyful in fulfilling Christ's Great Commission, even to the unchurched masses of the United Methodist Church.

At publishing time, the African church was already preparing another missionary trip to take the Gospel to Andy Stanley.???

The Drunk and His New Best Friend

A drunk guy is sitting at a bar by himself one night and he throws up all over the front of his shirt. "Oh great, my wife is going to kill me," he mumbles to himself.

The guy sitting next to him sees what has happened and leans over towards him, "Hey buddy, just put a twenty dollar bill in your shirt pocket and when you get home tell your wife the guy sitting next to you threw up on you and he gave you $20 to get your shirt cleaned."

Completely inebriated, the drunk thanks his new friend and puts a twenty in his shirt pocket, then heads for home.

As soon as he walks through the front door his wife becomes irate and starts yelling at him, "Where have you been? you're completely drunk and you're a mess. Look at yourself, you puked all over the front of your shirt!"

Completely wasted and slurring his words he explains to the wife, "No no, the guy sitting next to me threw up on my shirt and he gave me $20 to get it cleaned. Look, it's right here in my shirt pocket." The wife reaches into his pocket and pulls out the money, "There's $40 in here." "Oh yeah, he s*it in my pants too."

Whistleblower at Company That Supplies Boeing Fuselages Dies at Age 45
https://www.westernjournal.com/whistleblower-company-supplies-boeing-fuselages-dies-age-45/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=WJBreaking&utm_campaign=breaking&utm_content=western-journal

A whistleblower for a Boeing supplier died Tuesday at the age of 45 after being diagnosed with pneumonia and then MRSA, according to The Seattle Times.

Joshua Dean, who had been a quality auditor at Spirit AeroSystem, had claimed manufacturing defects on Boeing’s 737 MAX were being ignored, the outlet reported.

The Wichita, Kansas, man became ill about two weeks ago, according to his aunt, Carol Parsons.

A Facebook post from his mother said he also suffered a stroke.

“It was brutal what he went through,” Parsons said. “Heartbreaking.”

In a complaint to the Federal Aviation Administration, Dean described “serious and gross misconduct by senior quality management of the 737 production line” at Spirit, according to the Times.

Spirit fired him in April 2023. He then filed a complaint with the Department of Labor saying he was fired in retaliation for his stand.

Dean was represented by a law firm in South Carolina that also represented Boeing whistleblower John Barnett, who was found dead in March. Barnett’s death was ruled a suicide.

“Our thoughts are with Josh Dean’s family,” Spirit representative Joe Buccino said. “This sudden loss is stunning news here and for his loved ones.”

Do you trust Boeing planes enough to fly on one?
Yes: 19% (5 Votes)
No: 81% (21 Votes)

Brian Knowles, a lawyer who represented Dean, said he would not speculate on the deaths of two whistleblowers coming weeks apart.

“Whistleblowers are needed. They bring to light wrongdoing and corruption in the interests of society. It takes a lot of courage to stand up,” Knowles said, according to the Times. “It’s a difficult set of circumstances.

“Our thoughts now are with John’s family and Josh’s family.”

In 2022, Dean said mechanics were improperly drilling holes in the aft pressure bulkhead of the 737 MAX. He said nothing was done.

Dean was fired after another defect was found in fittings attaching the rear tail fin to the MAX’s fuselage, according to the Times. Dead did not report that flaw.

Spirit later announced the issue with bulkheads that he had flagged.

“After I was fired, Spirit AeroSystems [initially] did nothing to inform the FAA, and the public” about the issue, Dean said in a complaint.

An FAA letter to him later said, “The investigation determined that your allegations were appropriately addressed under an FAA-approved safety program. However, due to the privacy provisions of those programs, specific details cannot be released.”

The 737 MAX is not the only aircraft Boeing makes that has been the subject of concern.

Boeing whistleblower Sam Salehpour told NBC News that the company’s 787 Dreamliners could eventually “drop to the ground” midair if the production issues he raised were not addressed.

Salehpour was asked if he would board one of the jets with his family, and he replied, “Right now, I would not.”

He has said Boeing did not heed his concerns.

“I was ignored. I was told not to create delays. I was told, frankly, to shut up,” Salehpour said.

14-year-old active shooter shot and killed by police before he could enter middle school, Wisconsin police say
https://www.theblaze.com/news/wisconsin-active-shooter-killed-middle?utm_source=theblaze-dailyAM&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Daily%20Newsletter%20AM%20Premium%20Test%202024-05-02&utm_term=ACTIVE%20LIST%20-%20TheBlaze%20Daily%20AM&tpcc=email-premiumtest

Wisconsin police said an active shooter threat was "neutralized" before he was able to enter a middle school with a rifle.

Police responded to reports of the active shooter at the Mount Horeb Middle School in Dane County at about 12:30 p.m. local time.

School officials reassured parents that none of the students were harmed and that the suspect did not breach the entryway of the school. The schools of the Mount Horeb Area school district went into a hard lockdown after the active shooter report.

One witness who worked about a block away from the school said she heard numerous gunshots and saw dozens of students running away.

“I thought it was fireworks. I went outside and saw all the children running," said Jeanne Keller to the Associated Press. "I probably saw 200 children.”

Parents were frantically trying to find their children after hearing about the lockdown.

"One of my daughters is still inside of the middle school as we speak, but all we know is that there are some kids that want to shoot," said parent Brittany Rodriguez in an emotional interview with WISN-TV.

"To get a call when you're at work of your babies crying, saying that there's a shooting going on and, 'We're scared,' and you're 30 minutes away from them!" she added.

Officials later confirmed that the suspect had been a student of the middle school. They also said that Mount Horeb Police shot the student and that they were wearing active body cameras at the time.

Another parent said her children were leaving the school when the shooting happened.

“I literally have one that left the middle school five minutes before the shooting happened,” Melissa Alvarado said to WMTV-TV. “My other one was on this side of the school when the shots were fired and she said all the teachers were telling the children, they were yelling telling all the kids to run to the other side of the school and then about a half hour later she called and said they were barricading doors.”

Democrat Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers released a brief statement about the shooting on social media.

"I have been briefed on the incident at the Mount Horeb Area School District and am closely monitoring the situation," he posted. "I am praying for the health and safety of our kids, educators, and staff and grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond."

School officials credited their security precautions for preventing the alleged threat from entering into the school.

9 Reasonable Demands From Students Occupying Campus Buildings
Just to inform all you liberals, this is satair from “The Bee”
https://babylonbee.com/news/9-reasonable-demands-from-students-occupying-campus-buildings?utm_source=The%20Babylon%20Bee%20Newsletter&utm_medium=email

Much has been made about the student protesters occupying spaces on college campuses recently -- but what do these masked, wanna-be revolutionaries actually want? The Babylon Bee has obtained the following list of completely reasonable demands being made by students occupying campus buildings:

1...Later bedtimes: And no more naps!

2...Dunkaroos: With extra creme. They never give enough creme.

3...For the Jews to just stand still, surrender, and agree to be eradicated: And no defending themselves. That's not fair.

4...Some Red Vines: Get out of here with your Twizzler offers.

5...No accountability or consequences for anything they do or say at any point in their lives: Obviously.

6...Several pints of Ben & Jerry's "From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free" Pistachio Ice Cream: Freeing the people of Gaza one scoop at a time.

7...That campus be designated a gun-free, banana-free, and Jew-free zone: It's just common sense.

8...An extra 30 minutes of screen time on weekends: Schindler's List is a long movie, okay?

9...The total dismantling of all Western society and also some Pop-Tarts: Frosted strawberry and the complete end of the Western world. Delicious.

As soon as these demands are met, the protesters have agreed to keep rooting for the destruction of Israel and America, but back in their dorm rooms. Your move, University President!

The Helicopter Lesson

A blonde was taking helicopter lessons.

The instructor said, "I'll radio you every 1000 feet to see how you're doing." At 1000 feet, the instructor radioed her and said she was doing great.

At 2000 feet, he said she was still doing well.

Right before she got to 3000 feet, the propeller stopped, and she twirled to the ground. The instructor ran to where she crash landed and pulled her out of the helicopter. "What went wrong?" The blonde said, "At 2500 feet, I started to get cold, so I turned the big fan off."

Buckwheat (Karine Jean-Pierre) was fuming after reporters blew the lid on a failed plot to boot her from the Biden regime
https://conservativeundergroundnews.com/karine-jean-pierre-was-fuming-after-reporters-blew-the-lid-on-a-failed-plot-to-boot-her-from-the-biden-regime/?utm_source=Sovi&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=cu_2145095160&utm_term=&utm_content=

Buckwheat has been a total failure in her role as Biden’s Press Secretary.

Even some within the Biden regime recognize this fact.

And Karine Jean-Pierre was fuming after reporters blew the lid on a failed plot to boot her from the Biden regime.

Serving as White House Press Secretary is a stressful job for even the most competent and effective communicators.

And the job is even more difficult when the current President is experiencing significant physical and cognitive decline, as is the case with President Joe Biden.

But Biden Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is neither competent nor effective when it comes to communicating.

She’s been a complete flop as Press Secretary and has frequently made a fool of herself when trying to defend Joe Biden’s many failures.

And according to a report from the New York Post, White House aides schemed a plot last fall to boot her from her position as Press Secretary due to her incompetence.

Biden senior adviser Anita Dunn allegedly tried to force Jean-Pierre out last fall but failed because she refused to leave the position.

“There were a number of people she asked to engage Karine,” one source told The Post. “There was an effort to have some outside folks who Karine knows and trusts talk to her about why leaving last fall would have made a lot of sense for her and her career.”

According to the source, Jean-Pierre “had been in the job for a year and a half at that point, which is a pretty standard tenure for a press secretary in what is admittedly a very demanding job [and] Jeff and Anita [tried] to have folks that she would listen to and trust talk to her about why it might be wise to do that.”

“Jeff and Anita were trying to find Buckwheat a graceful exit,” another source told The Post.

The source claimed that forcefully firing Jean-Pierre would have been too nasty for a Biden regime that is actively attempting to imprison those with whom they disagree politically.

Of course, President Biden didn’t select Buckwheat because of her communication skills.

He chose her because Democrats’ allegiance to their woke extremist religious cults’ core tenets, like identity politics, dictates that a person’s race, gender, and sexual preference are more important characteristics than their aptitude for the job at hand.

And now, the Biden regime can’t fire her for the very same reason.

“There’s a huge diversity issue and they’re afraid of what folks are going to say,” the source told The Post.

“She has been pretty consistent in telling people from the minute she got the job that she was going to stay through the election,” they added. “I think Buckwheat has decided to stay come hell or high water and that’s that.”

The Biden regime reportedly wanted to oust Buckwheat because she doesn’t actually understand the issues at hand – and apparently hasn’t put forth any effort to learn – forcing her to read pre-written responses to self-proclaimed “journalists” to pre-submitted questions verbatim from her giant binder.

“Buckwheat doesn’t have an understanding of the issues and she reads the book [binder] word-for-word,” the source said. “She doesn’t have a grasp of the issues and doesn’t spend the time to learn.”

According to the report, Buckwheat delusional “thinks she’s doing an amazing job” and refuses to do the necessary work to be prepared for any question.

The Biden Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates denied the veracity of the report, claiming “not only are these claims wildly false, but the reality is the polar opposite.”

“Buckwheat was never approached by anyone with such a message,” he claimed. “She spends four hours preparing every day, and neither Jeff nor Anita did any such thing; both have been unflinchingly supportive of her.”

No one knows for certain whether or not the Biden regime tried to oust Buckwheat .

But what is certain is that she has been a total failure and disaster as Press Secretary.

All one has to do is watch one of her press conferences to realize this fact.

Blaze News investigates: Texas prepares to cut costs by using AI to grade students' state-required exams
https://www.theblaze.com/news/blaze-news-investigates-texas-prepares-to-cut-costs-by-using-ai-to-grade-students-state-required-exams?utm_source=theblaze-breaking&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20240501Trending-TexasAI&utm_term=ACTIVE%20LIST%20-%20TheBlaze%20Breaking%20News&tpcc=email-breaking
Students sitting for the STAAR exam throughout the state of Texas will have their written answers automatically graded by artificial intelligence. The development comes as some fear AI could significantly affect education in the near future.

The exam — provided by the Texas Education Agency — will use an "automated scoring engine" to help grade open-ended questions on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness for writing, reading, science, and social studies. The move is a step beyond using machines to simply grade multiple-choices answers or Scantron sheets.

It appears the state is prepared to save $15-$20 million per year by significantly reducing the number of humans who have to grade the tests. The plan in 2024 is to hire just 2,000 graders, representing a steep cut from the 6,000 human graders who were hired in 2023.

The technology that will be utilized to grade the long-form answers uses natural language processing, which is just one of the building blocks of artificial intelligence that well-known chatbots use, such as GPT-4.

Blaze News reached out to John Symons — professor of philosophy and director of the Center of Cyber Social Dynamics at the University of Kansas — who appeared to be optimistic about AI's ability to effectively grade STAAR exams without any significant setbacks.

"We're basically looking for thresholds, how can the kids hit those thresholds? And I think, you know, contemporary LLM [large language models] will be able to catch most of those cases and do just fine."

Since the STAAR exam was restructured in 2023, it now features fewer multiple-choice questions and more open-ended questions. These open-ended questions are also known as constructed response items.

Jose Rios, the director of student assessment at the Texas Education Agency, said, "We wanted to keep as many constructed open-ended responses as we can, but they take an incredible amount of time to score."

Before the AI technology would be capable of accurately grading students' exams, the Texas Education Agency had to develop a scoring system. The scoring system was developed by the agency, which gathered 3,000 responses that underwent two rounds of human grading.

After the responses were graded by humans, the automated scoring engine learned the specific characteristics of responses, allowing it to assign the same scores as would have been given by a human.

When he was asked about the potential for AI to make mistakes, Symons noted that the technology being used is sophisticated enough to identify answers in a manner similar to how humans find a specific shade on a color wheel. Between red and blue on a color wheel, there are tens, possibly hundreds, of shades of blue and red.

"So if you think about something like a color wheel, right, and you think about the location of a color in a color wheel, you'd say this particular shade of red has a particular coordinate in this color wheel, right? You could represent that with two numbers," Symons said.

"Now imagine making that three-dimensional, right? And so you could say okay, not just the color but the shade of the color, or the brightness of the color, and you could add other dimensions like the warmth of the color. And eventually, you'd have a multi-dimensional space of color."

"And what these [AI] systems do is they can do that with concepts."

Despite the AI's sophisticated nature, there is still the possibility that it will generate a "low confidence" response in the score it assigned. If this happens, the score will be double-checked by humans. The same is true if the AI meets a response to a question that its programming does not recognize, such as an answer that uses slang terms or words that are not in the English language.

Chris Rozunick — the division director for assessment development at the Texas Education Agency — said that the agency has "always had very robust quality control processes with humans," and that the same is true for technologies that will replace humans in the grading process.

In addition to humans supporting AI's grading efforts, a random sampling of student responses will automatically be pushed to humans to double-check that the technology is on the right track.

Software engineer and technologist Mike Wacker told Blaze News that it is imperative AI not suddenly "replace humans ... without evidence that the AI performs comparably to humans. You can't trust a rating just because it was produced by a fancy AI."

However, the Texas Education Agency has pushed back against the notion that it is using AI to grade the exams. The agency has conceded that while the automatic graders will use technology similar to GPT-4 and Google's Gemini, humans will still retain significant oversight over the process.

Rozunick said that "we are way far away from anything that's autonomous or can think on its own."

Even though the agency has insisted that the technology is a reliable grading mechanism, educators across the state have expressed their pessimism about the prospect of a machine grading a child's work.

Kevin Brown, who is the executive director for the Texas Association of School Administrators, said that "there ought to be some consensus about, hey, this is a good thing, or not a good thing, a fair thing or not a fair thing."

Carrie Griffith, a policy specialist for the Texas State Teachers Associations, appeared to echo Brown's sentiment, saying that "there's always this sort of feeling that everything happens to students and to schools and to teachers and not for them or with them."

The STAAR exam results are a pivotal accountability system that the Texas Education Agency uses to determine the proficiency of learning in school districts and individual campuses across the state.

Each district and individual campus is graded on a A-F scale. If a district or individual campus is discovered to have underperformed on the exam, the Texas education commissioner is obliged to intervene.

The stakes are high for campuses and districts across the state, which is partly why some feel uneasy about leaving the students' exams in the hands of sophisticated technology.

It has yet to be seen how sophisticated technology will handle grading the state's required exams and the unforeseen consequences it may present.

9 Highly Effective Ways To Remove Protesters From Your Cam
Just to inform all you liberals, this is satair from “The Bee”
https://babylonbee.com/news/8-ways-to-remove-protesters-from-your-campus?utm_source=The%20Babylon%20Bee%20Newsletter&utm_medium=email

If you're part of the administration of a major university, what you've seen on the news may have you feeling rather frightened. Say, for the sake of discussion, a large group of unruly students sets up an autonomous zone on campus and refuses to vacate. What can you do?

The Babylon Bee has come up with the following list of handy ways to quickly and easily remove protesters from your campus:

1...Halt all deliveries of pizza rolls and fruit snacks: They'll be running home to raid their parents' fridges before you can say "colonizers."

2...Tell them you saw a Jew across the street and he's getting away: They won't be able to resist the urge to hunt down one of their nemeses.

3...Send in Kyle Rittenhouse: He'll clear a quad in less than 12 seconds.

4...Throw granola bars containing gluten at them: All commies are allergic to gluten for some reason.

5...Tell them they have to locate Gaza on a map before they can protest: You'll likely be left with one or two protesters, tops.

6...Put up a sign that says "free drugs and gay stuff this way" with an arrow pointing off campus: We're pretty sure they're suckers for drugs and gay stuff.

7...Hold a Biden campaign rally: Instant ghost town.

8...Run around screaming "I'm unvaccinated!" and coughing everywhere: They may not be afraid to die for their cause, but they are afraid of COVID.

9...Pepper spray to the eyeballs: Classic.

Before you know it, your campus will be free of angry, violent commies so your school can go on indoctrinating another wave of young people who want to overthrow the country.

Ringing in the Mischief

A policeman is walking down the street one day when he notices a very small boy trying to press a doorbell on a house across the street.

However, the boy is very small and the doorbell is too high for him to reach.

After watching the boy's efforts for some time, the policeman moves closer to the boy's position.

He steps smartly across the street, walks up behind the little fellow and, placing his hand kindly on the child's shoulder leans over and gives the doorbell a solid ring. Crouching down to the child's level, the policeman smiles benevolently and asks, "And now what, my little man?"

"Now we run!"

Blaze News original: 7 times violent crooks were released — sometimes with no bail — and soon were charged with more violence
https://www.theblaze.com/news/blaze-news-original-7-times-violent-crooks-were-released-sometimes-with-no-bail-and-soon-were-charged-with-more-violence?utm_source=theblaze-breaking&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20240430Trending-Afternoon&utm_term=ACTIVE%20LIST%20-%20TheBlaze%20Breaking%20News&tpcc=email-breaking

Stories have flooded the news cycle in recent years about authorities releasing violent criminals from custody — sometimes with no bail and despite violent charges already on their records — after which they're soon charged with committing violent crimes again.

It's an issue that has many observers angry, frustrated, and fed up with woke politicians, district attorneys, judges, and social justice warriors who seem intent on keeping dangerous individuals out of jail and on streets and committing more violent crimes.

Just this month, a 30-year-old male allegedly punched a 9-year-old girl in the face while she was with her mother in the dining concourse of New York City's Grand Central Station.

WNBC-TV said the suspect got away before the Bronx girl was taken to the hospital, the station said.

Turns out just days before, cops charged the same suspect — later identified as Jean Carlos Zarzuela — reportedly for randomly punching a 54-year-old woman and breaking her nose inside Grand Central. But a source told WNBC-TV that while a judge set Zarzuela's bail at $2,500 cash — and Zarzuela went to jail — he went before a different judge soon after and was released.

Police arrested Zarzuela a few hours after the girl was punched, WNBC said. He was charged with assault, WPIX-TV said, adding that the MTA indicated additional charges are pending.

The girl suffered from dizziness and pain, WPIX reported, citing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. She's expected to recover, WPIX added.

Man arrested for punching girl in Grand Central: MTA

“It doesn’t make any sense that this guy — who recently was released after being charged with randomly punching someone else and breaking that victim’s nose — should be back in a public space where he can attack others, especially children,” MTA Communications Director Tim Minton told WPIX. “The people responsible for the criminal justice system need to learn from this episode before more innocent people become victims.”

The following are similar recent examples:

Ex-con released with no bail after his arrest for domestic violence against estranged wife; the next day he allegedly shoots her to death in front of her children
https://rumble.com/v4sjswb-ex-con-released-with-no-bail-after-his-arrest-for-domestic-violence-against.html

Adam Bennefield, 45, was charged with low-level misdemeanors in 2022 in connection with his alleged domestic violence against 30-year-old Keaira Bennefield — and the judge couldn't set bail, so he was released. Keaira Bennefield was so afraid of what might happen to her that she wore a bulletproof vest to drop her children off at school. A day later Adam Bennefield allegedly shot her to death in her car in front of her kids, ages 6 months to 9 years. The victim's mother said New York Gov. Kathy Hochul's support of cashless bail led to her daughter's murder: "She should be charged for the crime. She's also responsible for the crime. She failed me. She let me down and my daughter down, and she needs to make a change with the bail reform."

Woman released on zero bail after allegedly ramming car into businesses; a week later she's charged with arson and attempted murder

Jacqueline Whatley, 36, was arrested last October after allegedly ramming a car into a Coffee Bean and a sushi restaurant in Los Feliz, California, KTTV-TV said. Police charged her with vandalism, which was eligible for no-cash bail, and she was released, the station said. About a week later, she faced attempted murder charges in connection with setting fires that destroyed a business, a home, and an occupied tent — and this time she was being held on $1 million bail, KTTV said.

Woman beats man with pole, released with no bail while deemed 'moderate risk'; days later she kills mother of 8

Vanessa Harvey, 49, pleaded guilty in 2023 to voluntary manslaughter in the 2021 death of 42-year-old Machina Goodjoint, KLAS-TV reported, adding that two weeks before that crime Harvey beat her first victim — a man — with a metal pole. After the first attack, Harvey refused to appear for her probable cause hearing on a charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm, the station said. In the attack against Goodjoint, the victim's injuries were so severe that an officer reportedly believed Goodjoint was shot in the face. Harvey was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison and will be eligible for parole next year.

Thug reportedly released without bail after allegedly punching woman in face on NYC street — and despite suspect's 7 prior assault arrests

“He just punched me on the right side here, very strong,” Dulce Pichardo told WPIX-TV of the late March unprovoked attack in Brooklyn. “I was surprised. I said, ‘What’s going on? Why did you hit me? Why did you do it?’ I didn’t do anything. No reason to hit me." Officers arrested 33-year-old Franz Jeudy, WABC-TV reported. Jeudy was charged with third-degree assault — a misdemeanor, which means he wasn't bail-eligible — and he was released, the New York Post reported. The paper added that one of Jeudy's prior arrests took place in 2018 when he was charged with second-degree assault for an attack on a cop.

Thug arrested multiple times for assaults reportedly released from custody — then just 2 days later accused of brutal hatchet attack against elderly man

The suspect in a brutal hatchet attack against an elderly man last December reportedly was released from custody two days before the attack — and also had 19 bench warrants since 2012 and had been arrested for assaulting firefighters, health care workers, police officers, and strangers. Paleti Anikesi Veniale, 30, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, and prosecutors cited his extensive history of criminal violence when they asked for bail of $1 million.

Punk released with no bail after being charged with randomly attacking 2 men; a month later he's accused of punching 19-year-old female in face, breaking her nose

CWB Chicago reported that after prosecutors charged Diashun Dixson with randomly attacking two men — one of them 64 years old — at the Chicago French Market in May 2023, a judge ordered Dixson to pay a $10,000 bail deposit. But the outlet said he couldn't post bail and stayed in jail until December when his attorney — citing the state's elimination of cash bail — filed a motion and got Dixson released. CWB Chicago said not even a month later Dixson was accused of randomly punching a 19-year-old female college student so hard in the face that her nose was fractured. The outlet said Dixson was soon back in jail.

Rare Occasion May Result In Two Social Security Payments In May
https://trendingnewsfeed.com/rare-occasion-may-result-in-two-social-security-payments-in-may/

This May, some Americans who receive Supplemental Social Security (SSI) payments will see an unusual occurrence: they will be issued two checks instead of the usual one. This anomaly arises from a scheduling quirk within the Social Security Administration’s payment system.

Under normal circumstances, SSI payments are disbursed on the first day of each month. However, if the first day falls on a weekend or a holiday, the payment is made on the preceding business day. This year, since June 1st is a Saturday, beneficiaries will receive their June payment on the last day of May, hence the two payments this month.

The first of these payments will arrive as usual on May 1st, with the second following on May 31st. It is important to note that this does not indicate an extra disbursement but rather an advance on the following month’s payment. This same scheduling will occur twice more this year, in August and November.

SSI benefits are designed to provide financial assistance to disabled individuals and older Americans who have low incomes. These benefits play a crucial role in the everyday lives of recipients, many of whom rely on them for their basic needs.

Despite the fact that these payments are critical for many, there has been an increase in the challenges faced by retirees, particularly in the face of rising inflation. This year, beneficiaries of Social Security saw a modest increase in their cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), set at 3.2% for 2024. This adjustment is intended to help recipients cope with inflation by aligning their benefits with the cost of living increases.

This recent COLA, however, has been a subject of dissatisfaction among many recipients. A survey by Atticus highlighted that approximately 62% of seniors feel that the increase has not sufficiently addressed their needs, especially as they continue to deal with soaring prices for utilities, insurance, heating, and food. These rising costs have significantly impacted their purchasing power, making it difficult for many to manage their expenses effectively.

In contrast to this year’s increase, 2023 saw a significantly higher COLA of 8.7%, the largest in forty years. The increase for 2024, though less than the previous year, still stands above the average increase of 2.6% seen over the past two decades.

The method for calculating the annual adjustment in Social Security benefits is based on the consumer price index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) from the months of July, August, and September of the previous year. This index measures changes in the cost of goods and services, reflecting the economic environment that beneficiaries face.

As more than 66 million Americans receive these adjusted benefits starting from January, the focus remains on how these changes help manage the economic pressures faced by retirees across the nation.
