AS long as people like us sit & run down one party & the other
There will be no progress. Government is bought & paid for by big money Things will only changed when the average persons on the street can agree on the problem & point to the real problem.

I am a conservative by nature but liberal in my views on how to make life better for the most of us. I am not looking for the government for any special favors.

What seems to be at the core of most of our disagreements is what one party or the other does for special interests.

All I ask for is a cut back & an end to all special favors for special interests. Some that you may like & some you would be for.

This is precisely why we should abandon the two party system. That could be done if we draft our congressmen.

And so now the thread is hijacked and it comes down to a brawl. Is this how all intelligent conversation is killed on this site?

But the "real republicans" have to want to run. They will not get very far, though. The real strength would be in solid moral moderates, as they can pull votes from both sides. But political affiliation is also part of the problem.

How to argue like a democrat:

Step 1: Tell a lie

Inyourface wrote:
It is ironic that states that vote solid GOP are the same ones that suck up the Government ,largess in disproportionate, amounts.

A typical example is Owsley County,Kentucky. The population is 98 percent white and 81 percent GOP. They have the lowest household ,income in the country. Nearly half of these folks live below the poverty line. Yet their Congressman ,voted against raising the minimum wage to 10.00.

What is the matter with these people? They, like the morons in 213 of the 254 counties whose food stamp use doubled since the Bush/Cheney,economic debacle ,voted for Romney and the GOP in 2012.

Bizarre to say the least.

Step 2: When called on lie, call them names

rrmoderate wrote:
The GOP has relied for years on similar rural counties in states like KY. These require very, very small amounts of invested dollars to elect representatives to Congress and to bring home the electoral votes in presidential elections.

We're fast becoming a nation of 'haves and have-nots'. The demographics and economics in these areas are a perfect storm to perpetuate the GOP and some of their more whacko philosophies.

Step 3: Quickly follow name calling with the racist card

Inyourface wrote:
50,000 Latinos turn 18 EVERY month in the USA. This will soon render these morons irrellevant. Their inabilty to get beyond their racism has made them into "deadenders' who will drive the nation off a cliff. The sooner they are marginalized the better.

Step 4: If steps 1-3 do not work, change the subject

BoJester wrote:
The violent crime statistic in WV are nothing to brag about, not to mention the biggest cottage industry in the state is meth labs. Could help explain why welfare is up, rape is up and theft is up.

Step 5: When all else fails, bring up Bush

I so wanted to find an example of this in this thread. Perhaps before it is over....

I read your article, and the major thrust of it was not WHICH states got more welfare, but simply argued about the designation of each welfare state-trying to convince someone that the welfare state of West Virginia was really blue, and that New Hamshire was red. Sorry Charlie, the definition was the presidental election, the one with the highest turnout, the one least likely to involve local issues and the one most likely to reflect the 'world view' and big picture thinking of the voters. I would think that in most big picture ways-education, healthcare, environment, role of government, etc. New Hampshire is Blue and West Virginia is red.

HAHAHAHAHA! You start a thread, a redundant thread for the THIRD time, then when you actually get a discussion that you can't win, it is no longer newsworthy?

My name is Heath Rudisill. I was born in California and now reside in Georgia. I am a disabled veteran and blue collar independent thinker. I tend to be somewhat conservative/moderate but am affiliated with no party. I can't remember where I found this site, but have been here for about a week now. I look forward to intelligent, troll free conversation.

Ever hear of elections. Elect people that believe in, and will support and defend the Constitution, and if that does not work do what Thomas Jefferson said to do "When injustice becomes law, then rebellion becomes duty."

Again, electing congressmen does not work. You have two people to choose from, both of which are horrible choices. We have to draft them.

Your title is inaccurate. Ted Cruz wants to defund obamacare. "To shut down the military" is what will happen if they can not pass a budget. Try a little less demagoguery with your comments, or at least speak truthfully. If the senate passes the budget that the house has, next week I could start a thread titled "Obama wants to shut down the military" when he vetoes this budget.
