In the collapse scenario you describe that's what would have happened to both towers.
There is another building with damage to one side at the base. This is similar to what you describe happened to WTC7.
Watch how the building rolls over to the damaged side while staying intact otherwise. Office towers do not disintegrate unless explosives are involved.
