Sounds like your family is on the right track. Congrats! So many today are falling apart that it is always uplifting to hear from a good, healthy family.

I see you are new here. Me, too. I just registered a few minutes ago. Hope to see you around a lot!

Hugs~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi!
Here's what you may (or may NOT) want or need to know about me if we converse.
I'm 74 years young, grew up poor but loved and learned poor is neither bad nor sad. Life is what YOU make it, and each day I wake up I make the decision to either be happy or unhappy - believe it or not, it works!!

I've been involved and interested in politics since 1962, primarily because I long ago learned there is precious little of anyone's life that is NOT affected by politics. Ignorance of politics makes one the equivalent of a leaf in a windstorm. I am opinionated, almost always my basis is factual experience and/or historical facts which we assume are also factual.

Widow now, living with a partner who also blogs and delves deeply into politics. He helped with the Barry Goldwater campaign. I ran for mayor and was the first female mayor in my county in Texas. He, too, is a military veteran.

I love a good debate and don't mind having differing views about things, but I do get a tad agitated when people deny that history happened, when they deny everything that is opposed to their agenda, and when they demonstrate that they cannot utilize logic.

Let me be clear about my "agenda". I am a firm believer in individual freedoms and a staunch American. I served in the Army Nurse Corps and for 43 year was married to a US Marine. I am a patriot of the real America and not the least bit fond of the America of today that is filled with divisiveness and hatred, most of which is caused by our politicians and their hyperbole. It is NOT the America I grew up in . THAT America was healthier in every respect than the one that creaks irresponsibly along today.

Have a great day, everyone. Looking forward to speaking with each of you!

I was Republican for 50 years - no longer. I quit it when I finally accepted the fact it did not represent me. Just like the Democrat(ic) Party doesn't represent the average democrat. Unlike Democrats, I won't support those who will not represent me. I voted for neither Romney nor Obama, but I VOTED.

To the point: The drug "war" failed. It's crazy to continue with failure. In addition to that, I happen to believe in individual freedom. That means I don't care if the US Congress chooses to drink themselves into a stupor, nor is it any of my business if the average citizen chooses to smoke pot or do other drugs. Anyone who damages any other person or anyone's property while under the influence of ANY substance should be liable for such - but his choice to use is HIS, not the GOVERNment's. Those on the left seem to believe all conservatives are pro drug war - definitely NOT SO.

"When asked about participating in specific government social programs, 97 percent of Republicans and 98 percent of Democrats say they have taken part in a government program of some kind, according to a 2008 survey run by the Cornell Survey Research Institute. Not just one or two either; the survey found that people had used around five social policies on average."

I am strongly opposed to socialist type government programs. I write about them often. However, given that I and probably more republicans than democrats PAY for those programs, it is disingenious for anyone to suggest those paying for said programs should be denigrated for using what they have paid for, particularly if they were opposed to having to pay for them at the point of a gun (government force).
