Here we are days away from the elections, and one of my Senators up for re-election finally has a TV ad. We haven't heard from him much up to now, even refusing to debate his challenger. I don't know if he's tired and hoping he'll lose so he can go home, if he is just supremely confident in getting re-elected, or he just doesn't give a shit either way. Be that as it may, the TV ad did provide a few chuckles.
The ad suggested that he was working tirelessly to get our troops what they needed to "wipe ISIS off the map" and I'm thinking, when did THAT happen? This Congress has been in recess more days than not this year, so I don't know when he'd have had a chance to do all that work, not to mention - I've seen no evidence of any map wiping appropriations. At least half of the Defense Appropriations bill, had crap attached that had nothing to do with defense, and virtually no map wiping items. Maybe I missed something.
The ad also said he had made sure that our Veterans got what they needed when they returned from combat, and I'm thinking "maybe" - 14 years AFTER the start of combat operations, AFTER a VA whistle blower blew his whistle and even then - the Congress acted like it was THIER money they were going to have to use to do a half assed decent job of taking care of Vets. He didn't seem too cranked up about vets for 14 years, now wants to take credit for something someone ELSE did about the problem. The gall!
The ad said he was all about our farmers here, doing whatever he could to aid them, but voted against the farm bill - twice. As far as I can tell, his only contact with our farmers was having breakfast with a handful of them - for the photo op that appeared in the ad. He really needs to get some pointers from Trump about PR, this guy sucks at it.
The ad said he was helping our State's businesses, but the only evidence of any "help" I could find, involved a particular business - that he started prior to Senatorizing and still has a controlling interest in. Does he not know about that new fangled thingy called the "internet"? We mere mortals can now see what votes our representatives cast on what legislation, we can view their activity schedules, we can find out what businesses they own or are partners in and a lot of other stuff. Of course, there's a way to hide some of that shit, or disguise it, but apparently he is unaware of that.
All in all, the ad is up there with the "Big Bang Theory" for comedic relief. I can't wait to see the next one, assuming there is another one, and there may not be. After all, there are probably 50 people here who were totally taken in by THIS one - and that may be enough.
Here we are days away from the elections, and one ... (
