This day in history was unusually busy. On this day in 1861, Confederate artillery opened fire on Ft. Sumter, SC, initiating hostilities in what was to become known as the "War of Northern Aggression."
On this day in 1633, Galileo was convicted of heresy. He thought he was smarter than the Pope.
On this day in 1945, FDR died.
On this day in 1864, the Fort Pillow massacre occurred.
On this day in 1961, one hundred years after the bombardment of Ft. Sumter, Yuri Alekseyavich Gagarin became the first man in space.
On this day in 1981, the first launch of the first Space Shuttle, Columbia, occurred at Cape Canaveral, FL.
Last but not least, on this day in 1954, Bill Haley and the Comets recorded "Rock Around the Clock"
Although I still view it as the 'War Between The States', or the 'Civil War', myself...things are still 'rocking', vociferously, throughout the nation.

In a weak attempt at dark humor, Salty, I was implying the country still is going through 'rocky' times with some of the same issues from that unfortunate war. Sometimes, I miss the mark.

Not at all. I understood what you were saying and concur. I was saying, implying, that Obama is the Left's Rock of Gibralter. Now they will switch their allegiance to Hitlery.

Thanks for your kindness. I thought, perhaps, I had been too vague.

I am Southern by birth, New Mexican by raising. Bear in mind the winners write the history books. As I have said before; I wonder how the Carthaginian version of the Punic Wars would read?
Vlad Dracul is a hero to the Wallachians. The Turks have a somewhat more jaundiced view.

The ancient Romans were not exactly fans of Arminius, either, at least not after 9 AD.

Your llama's informed me they understood, but also said you didn't always understand them. However, they will defend you to the end of their days as you are a very loving companion. You are very fortunate to have such devoted friends.

Ummmmm, I understood. While I "am" MOST fortunate to have such good friends and while I always considered you a gifted linguist, my "not meee" was in reference to Madam "H". Yes, you might think there's hope for me yet, you might.

Oh, no umbrage taken whatsoever, kind sir....I KNOW it was meant in jest, indeed I did. As to future endeavors? I think I'm going to endeavor to take more time to hug my llamas and smell the roses, maybe even bring back to life my koi and lotus ponds. I feel the need for a renewal of spirit.
