Time Magazine Affirms - Rush Limbaugh Is In Trouble

Rush Limbaugh, eating a cigar
It seems the larger mainstream media outlets like Time Magazine are starting to realize that 'small-fry' social media outlets have become a force to be reckoned with.
Last week, I published a Daily Kos diary about Wall Street Journal radio statistics. The industry numbers confirmed social media campaigns are winning the fight against hate radio, namely Rush Limbaugh. And now, Time Magazine is jumping in. Both are seeing social media groups like StopRush, BoycottRush, and FlushRush cause Rush Limbaugh to lose sponsors, radio stations, and market standings. And these groups are supported by larger social media news organization/blogs like Daily Kos, Media Matters, Liberals Unite, UniteWomen.org, Alternet, Addicting Info, Politico, and PoliticusUSA… who continue to cover/promote stories about the Limbaugh protest. Despite all of Limbaugh's money and best efforts to squelch the protest, it just keeps growing.

Time Magazine writer, Brian Rosenwald, chimed in on Wednesday. Rosenwald is completing his doctoral dissertation. In this article he discusses how talk radio has changed politics/public policy and how, now, the internet is changing talk radio. For decades, Limbaugh could get away with atrocities like making up sick songs about AIDS victims and getting away with it. Rosenwald goes on to say it's very different now:

Today, by contrast, every word that Limbaugh says is broadcast and archived. Watchdog groups, such as Media Matters, scrutinize every word, waiting to blast any potentially offensive statements out to the world. Whereas the opinions of non-listeners might have been irrelevant in 1988 and a boycott hard to organize, someone who considered the Elba comments to be racist could easily use social media to pressure advertisers to remove their ads from Limbaugh’s program (as many did in 2012 after Limbaugh insulted Georgetown student Sandra Fluke).
Most folks following the protest know that current campaigns not only pressured advertisers in 2012, they have continued to do so for three years.
Rosenwald goes on to say Limbaugh's hateful and inflammatory words now go beyond the ears of his dittoheads/fans/listeners. His vitriol can easily reach hundreds of thousands via social media campaigns:

[Radio] Hosts’ words far more easily reach non-listeners than they did 25 years ago. Indeed, a show’s actual audience need not be bothered for comments to cause trouble. Campaigns against a host can build over time, and social media makes it easy to pressure station management and advertisers.
In fact, the provocative, unpredictable content that produces the best talk radio fits poorly with an advertiser-based business model in the Internet and social media era. This problem may eventually drive the content provided by Limbaugh and his peers to an internet-based subscription platform, where hosts do not have to worry about losing advertisers when they generate controversy.

That's the goal for many protesting Rush Limbaugh. They feel we all have the right to free speech, including Limbaugh, as protestors practice their own First Amendment rights via protests, petitions and boycotts. The difference, many say, is that much of Rush Limbaugh's vile commentary is hate speech, and he dangerously promotes misogyny, anti-lgbt hatred, and racism. This in turn can lead to bullying, abuse, hate crimes, violence, and murder. The public has had enough and they want this type of talk show off their public radio. 'Let him take his vitriol private.'
Change is happening - positive change, and it's due to every day people becoming more proactive in fighting extremism. No more do we have to write, stamp, and mail letters to companies with our grievances, then wonder if anyone will read them. No longer to we have to wait on the phone for hours to talk with someone who might care. Now we can simply post our thoughts/complaints onto the company's Facebook/Twitter pages with a few clicks. Most likely someone in the company will see it, and it behooves them to address the consumers. One bad customer experience can go viral. This may seem intimidating, but in reality it's simply the beauty of America's free market, except this time, free market is to the advantage of the people. This gives citizens the option to boycott/not buy from companies that support odious hate mongers like Limbaugh and highly abhorrent, propagated media.

To join the massive and successful protest against hate radio, here are some easy things most anyone can do.

Sign: Boycott Rush Limbaugh Sponsors Petition
Visit/Like: BoycottRush Facebook Page
Join: The Fight To Flush Rush
Visit: StopRush.net for an extensive list of Limbaugh Sponsors
Tweet #StopRush and #FlushRush
For more on Rosenwald's story, visit Time Magazine.
UPDATE: Since posting several articles about Rush Limbaugh th is week, over 16,000 more people have signed the sponsor petition bringing it to a total of over 125,000 signatures! No more do we have to physically go door to door to ask folks to sign petitions. This is about the public using social media to protest hate speech and hate media. And it's a wonderful thing to behold.

Thank You, Kossack Richard Myers. Rest In Peace. We Will Finish This.
Great News, folks. That hatemonger Rush Limbaugh,... (show quote)

Loki has pretty much hit the nail on the head with his summation of our current political predicament...are the citizens capable of snapping out of their complacency and working to educate themselves and eachother in order to have a true democratic-republic? Can we prove that we are better than the duplicitous politicians whom we have allowed to take power? Can we live up to our own ideals?

Limbaugh has likely run his course and will retire a very wealthy man. In retirement he can pursue his true loves, the pill jar, liquor bottle and crack pipe. Goebbels looks like a rank armature when compared to Rush, and like Gobbels Limbaugh will almost certainly do himself in. With Rush it will not be a gunshot but rather a brain aneurism or his ticker exploding after he snorts one too many lines of meth or coke off the bare bottom of one of the Cuban pool boys in his Florida compound. If there is a hell it is where Rush will end up, head first in his own smoldering and boiling dung heap with his mouth and eyes wide open.

Richard, this list of lies you post by Politifact are pure garbage. I have read every one and most badly twist the truth. To name one, the quote about Rush wishing the Country would fail rather than have Obama succeed is completely false. I remember hearing that interview Rush had and he did not say that. He replied to the interviewer's question about wanting Obama to fail and he said "If you're talking about implementing the policies he is advocating, then of course I hope he fails." He made it clear that he felt Obama's policies were leading this country to failure. I guess 6 years of tyrannical rule and unilateral implementing garbage such as amnesty for illegals as well as ramming through Obamacare, among many others, should prove that Rush was right, as he usually is. I can tell by reading your inane posts that your garbage has been obtained by listening to leftist sources which have twisted his statements and not reliable ones. Why don't you try listening to him first hand sometime and see what he really says?

This thread is a prime example. The poster, Richard, is simply presenting one more example of the leftist totalitarian modus operandi. These liberals don't give a crap about our Constitution, our American way of life, our freedom of speech and religion, or any other liberties granted us. And, when they see someone like Rush, or Sarah Palin, or Ted Cruz, or Scott Walker as a direct threat to their oppressive agenda, they attack--viciously, no holds barred. This is their MO and they will never compromise on that. The websites they appeal to to back them up are their arsenal for the lies, the fabrications, the slander and propaganda that drives their agenda. Attempting to meet a liberal in the middle of the road is a good way to get run over.

So, screw 'em, JD, they can shove their craven anti-Americanism up their pathetic asses.

BR, I think you have pretty well summed it up. The libs on this series are obviously the second team, maybe even the 3d or 4th team. This is a second grade back and forth which accomplishes very little.

Paul Joseph Goebbels (English /ˈɡɜrbəlz/; German: [ˈɡœbəls] ( listen);[1] 29 October 1897 – 1 May 1945) was a German politician and Reich Minister of Propaganda in Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. As one of Adolf Hitler's closest associates and most devoted followers, he was known for his zealous orations and deep and virulent antisemitism, which led to his strongly supporting the extermination of the Jews when the Nazi leadership developed their "Final Solution".

Goebbels came to power in 1933 after Hitler was appointed chancellor; within six weeks Hitler arranged his appointment as Propaganda Minister. One of Goebbels' first acts was to organize the burning of "decadent" books. Under Goebbels' leadership, the Propaganda Ministry quickly gained and exerted controlling supervision over the news media, arts, and information in Germany.

From the beginning of his tenure, Goebbels organized actions against German Jews, commencing with a one-day boycott of Jewish businessmen, doctors and lawyers[2] on 1 April 1933.[3] These actions may have contributed to the outright violence of Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) on the night of 9–10 November 1938, an open and unrestrained pogrom unleashed by the Nazis across Germany in which synagogues were burned, Jewish-owned businesses trashed, Jews assaulted (91 killed), and thousands of them arrested and incarcerated in concentration camps.[4]

During World War II, Goebbels increased his power and influence through adroit and shifting alliances with other Nazi leaders. By mid-1943, the tide of war was turning against the Axis powers; Goebbels responded to major defeats on the Russian front in a series of highly orchestrated, emotionally manipulative speeches urging the Germans to embrace the idea of total war and total mobilization. He remained with Hitler in Berlin to the end. Before he committed suicide, Hitler named him his successor as Chancellor in his will. On 1 May 1945, the day after Hitler had committed suicide with his new wife Eva Braun, Goebbels and his wife Magda killed their six young children by giving them poison (in the form of cyanide pills or capsules) in their sleep, then committed suicide themselves. The couple's bodies were burned in a shell crater, but due to the lack of petrol the burning was only partially effective.

There is a reason why he has 20 million viewers, and a 99.7% accuracy rating...you libtards can't handle the truth.

So would you pay (subscribe) to hear his 99.7% "accuracy" rating? If not, you my not be listening to Rush much longer. Actually, it's bit ironic don't you think--as what is really going to do him in is the cheapness of those who listen to him. What better end for the king of hate!

Your side's agenda? From aborting untold numbers of unborn Americans and then importing people to fill jobs. What happens is all to familiar, we get lost from the true spirit of our heritage, patriotism, and morality. This all led to this point in time because democrats and others have allowed pork (gotta pass it before we can read it) in the deficit/borrowing money, bonds and the like to put us real Americans to be compromised by the debt we owe. These are the "Oliver's" that ask for more of everything on someone else's tab. Now the American people need to take the country back and really clean house and bullet-proof the constitution so no traitor / or simple Simon can hijack the country.
