Yes, I do have a son - I think the breakdown is 1/8 th Cherokee for him. It gets confusing after awhile. I am not saying that the people did right back then by taking away land/whatever. What I am saying is that we/I have done nothing wrong to them today. If I meet anyone of them today (and I have) I only have respect for them as I try to do for anyone else. The same applies to any black/Mexican/chinaman/etc. But, we/I today have done nothing against these people and should not be punished for whatever happened 80/100/200 years ago. I only wish the best to every single individual out there. There have been countless number of wars, but I personally did not start them and truly pray that someday they might go away.
But, again, I did not do anything to them and some are even my own past relatives. Was Moses punished because Adam/Eve ate of the fruit of the garden? Why must the people of today be punished for whatever the pilgrims did?

I am having trouble understanding which way you are leaning on this issue. First you say they have it made, and then you say they have it crappy.

Tell me one thing, Wasn't there a war between the indians and the U.S. ? When we were trying to get away from the British, didn't the British hire the Indians to fight with us? How are they different than any other conquered enemy.
Do you remember the war with Mexico? When the war is over, you are either a prisoner, a refugee, or dead. We have given the American Indian the privelige of living in the U. S. without any of the burdens of it. Let us do them a favor, and take special status away from them, let them join as citizens-(just like any other immigrant) and take their chances like everyone else. Let them pay taxes too.

Why aren't they blending in like everybody else?
Why are we keeping them as pets? They are not pets, they are viable human beings. Join the fray we are all in.

I will disagree here. What happened is the US Government entered into various contracts with various indigenous people with the intent to defraud them. The damaged parties are pursuing remedies as provided by law, as much as possible. Why is this different, legally, from reparations for slavery? Because slavery was legal. Deliberate, intentional fraud was not. I do not believe all tribes are entitled to reparations, compensations, or whatever you wish to call them, but some tribes most certainly are.
