Joe is pretty soft on China. I know why. China's economy has been on the verge of collapse for a year or so, but it looks like they may just squeak by if they they can get through this year. That would be a great thing for us in the long run and even Joe Idiot knows it. However, if China does collapse, temporarily it would put the US into a recession because we are so linked to China. Joe cannot afford to take that chance in an election year.

President Xi knows that. His position in China is in peril too, but he is betting that Joe will not risk much this year. Xi is going all Mao in his policies. This is sinking China economically and militarily in the long term, but short term, like Mao's Cultural Revolution it is keeping his domestic rivals at bay.
