I actually support voter ID. The problem is that there is no national standard, so each state can set their own.
Some states write laws that infringe upon the constitutional rights of citizens. These laws get challenged in the courts and are usually struck down.
What is the solution? A National ID, that no state can make more restrictive? Tamper-roof with either finger prints or retinal scan? There are plenty of possibilities, I think most conservatives would argue that is "too much" big government. Most liberals would complain about about "too much" government intrusion.
It is much easier for both sides to whine and complain, but never do anything to solve the problem

If there is no such thing as voter fraud why it such a great issue to avoid voter ID cards?
We need some sort of ID to: cash a check, apply for a driver license, apply for a credit card, file for unemployment, apply for social services, etc.
