When pro-choice referendums win while Republicans are elected, e.g. Kansas, it is clear that the public does not support complete abortion bans and that this is a losing issue for Republicans. If Democrats can scare voters that electing Republicans will result in abortion bans, they will win. Yoingkin foolishly promised to pass abortion restrictions if the Republicans got a majority and lost both houses.
The best situation for Republicans is to have a state constitution guarantee abortion so no Democrat can run a scare campaign on the issue.

When pro-choice referendums win while Republicans ... (show quote)

They should just let the States decide. And guys like former President Trump should just soft-peddle it. Leave it alone...if it's a losing proposition. It's just like Biden not bringing up the border crisis issue. He knows it's a losing proposition, and somewhere where he has failed miserably. I have a lot of respect for Abbott of Texas. He has grabbed the bull by the horns and done something about it.
