I have a flock of about 70 chickens where i live. Today i was in the house and heard cackles and squawks coming from their pen. I grabbed my 22 raced outside just as a hawk screemed and took to flight leaving my half eaten chicken. I fired brought down the hawk and now i'm wondering, is this legal?

No. It is illegal to kill any bird of prey. At least here in Texas it is.

You're a damned good shot to bring down a hawk in flight with a 22.

I would have grabbed one of my shotguns.

Everything is legal if you have a good shovel and keep quiet about why you dig holes.

Many states have laws that allow you to protect domesticated animals from preditation with some exemptions for endangered species.
you would need to check with your local DNR to be sure. When they attack my chickens the same result happens.

Not if it was killing your chickens. Protecting your property and all. Course getting where you're not really allowed to do such anymore. To independent and all ya know...

I think you should follow the new southern border rule.....shoot shovel and shut up, with all due respect. I've heard hawk is pretty tasty its got a flavor like a cross between spotted owl and California condor. I think I should shut up before I get you in real trouble.

I'm not worried about trouble but that's a great idea!
