The biggest reason is that it is no longer being swept under the rug like so many other things were in the past.
Did you ever have or know anyone who had a "maiden aunt" who just never found the "right guy" that now just lives with a "friend" who is in the same "unfortunate" situation?
Remember the "weird" kid in school that everyone bullied because he or she was "just different"?
How about the countries where homosexuality warrants a death sentence? How about those places where adultery (if you are a woman) warrants stoning or "honor killing".
It's amazing what horrors can be perpetrated or justified and what outrage is expressed based on who loves who and how they express it while bombing cities to ruin, opening up with an automatic weapon in a room full of people or murdering 5 year olds in a kindergarten is seen as bad things that are inevitable in today's world.

I wrote a response to your original question about 10 minutes ago. I hope that you receive it.

An education where issues are discussed openly and freely regardless of how electrifying they may be or how much the conclusions might disagree with previously held concepts conducted in conjunction with math, science, literature, history (all of it), sociology and philosophy has never really been shown as the source of an actual problem. "educations" where the subject matter is "approved" and where "problematic" parts of various courses of study are omitted, however, result in stilted ignorance that can cause a lot of problems.

You need some new news sources. It IS happening. It HAS happened. Admittedly it is rare, but once is too many. Do some research into former trans who now deeply regret that their parents let them have gender surgery. If it is not happening, then why are Democrats fighting laws to stop it, and why are hospitals and some doctors offering the service?

I agree .....IF it is a mental issue. But when educators, school boards, and teachers all the way down to kindergarten are on a sharp look out for ANY signs of transgender kids, and indeed are pushing and encouraging kids, in way too many cases, to be gender fluid WITHOUT discussing it with parents, then it is time for laws to be passed. Not to forbid such surgeries in ALL cases, but to make absolutely sure such a drastic step is what the minor wants and needs for mental health.
Unlike you, I have some experience in working with mentally and emotionally confused children. Almost 50 years of experience, so while not a professional, I DO have some knowledge of such situations.

I absolutely agree. If a teacher notices something, the FIRST thing to do is contact the parents, then document the circumstances with their superiors. After that, it is none of the school systems business.
