Not all, Boot. Some have yet to matriculate beyond kindergarten.

This sounds like it was written by a child. Based on the good doctors diagnosis are we to assume he is a liberal?

A study to be published next year at University College London suggests that conservative brains are structured differently than the brains of other people. The investigation, led by Geraint Rees, focused on 92 individuals in the U.K. — 90 students and two members of Parliament.

Specifically, the research shows that people with conservative tendencies have a larger amygdala and a smaller anterior cingulate than other people. The amygdala — typically thought of as the “primitive brain” — is responsible for reflexive impulses, like fear. The anterior cingulate is thought to be responsible for courage and optimism. This one-two punch could be responsible for many of the anecdotal claims that conservatives “think differently” from others.

Since only adults were included in the investigation, researchers were unable to determine if cerebral physiology drives politics or if political beliefs change the brain. A previous University of California study suggests the former is possible, isolating a so-called “liberal gene” — the neurotransmitter DRD4 — responsible for an increased receptiveness to novel ideas.

Nope. Glad SOMEONE is paying attention. It was Priscilla Mullins, who was being courted by Miles Standish. John Alden asked for her hand in Miles' stead, and the reply that has come down to us through the years was "Speak for yourself, John Alden". Pocahontas changed her name to Rebecca during the period of her captivity, having been kidnapped for ransom by the English, and married John Rolfe.

Slatten49, you are obviously an intelligent, thinking man. I agree that it is disappointing the level to which this site has fallen. I once had some hope for it as an opportunity for interested and reasonably well informed people to exchange views and opinions and to learn something. However I have to disagree with your last statement, we are obviously not all better than this.
This site is pure anarchy. There are no agreed upon rules of behavior and one or a few whose motives seem to be to keep others from meaningful conversation and to gain attention for themselves are able to destroy useful conversation.
However, I think there is much to learn here despite the lack of any structure. It makes me think of what a major city like San Francisco or Denver would be like if there were no laws, no police, no fire fighters, and as a result, the city would be in unimaginable chaos and anarchy. One thing we can learn is, how our world would be if we had anarchy and its chaos in our communities rather than merely in an attempt to have a discussion group. Conservative thinkers place a high priority on stability of institutions, laws and customs and the anarchy of this site makes it very clear how essential these conservative values are. Freedom requires a stable, secure, predictable society and without that, like this site, it just won’t work.

I agree with your analogy. But, as I've stated several times on the OPP...bad or crude behavior separate from or accompanied by vitriolic or profane remarks by another is an excuse for reciprocation, not a reason for one's own.

I leave you gentlemen to your soiree.

Thanks, BlackSheep. I was being facetious, but it was my attempt to return what I saw as an effort at lightening the tone of things.

People with liberal views tended to have increased grey matter in the anterior cingulated cortex, a region of the brain linked to decision-making, in particular when conflicting information is being presented. Previous research showed that electrical potentials recorded from this region during a task that involves responding to conflicting information were bigger in people who were more liberal or left wing than people who were more conservative.

Conservatives, meanwhile, found increased grey matter in the amygdala, an area of the brain associated with processing emotion. This difference is consistent with studies which show that people who consider themselves to be conservative respond to threatening situations with more aggression than do liberals and are more sensitive to threatening facial expressions.

When I was in college I took a course in political science where the philosophy behind conservatism was described as Irrationalism and the philosophy behind liberalism was described as Rationalism.

The definition of Irrationalism is: a system emphasizing intuition, instinct, feeling, or faith rather than reason or holding that the universe is governed by irrational forces

Note that all of these actions are based on emotions!

Rationalism on the other hand is defined as: a belief or theory that opinions and actions should be based on reason and knowledge rather than on religious belief or emotional response. "scientific rationalism"
PHILOSOPHY
the theory that reason rather than experience is the foundation of certainty in knowledge.
THEOLOGY
the practice of treating reason as the ultimate authority in religion.

It looks like the two theories are spot on with each other...

Yes and I'm afraid I am not very proud of my initial reaction to your answer. I at first without reading the entire thing assumed I was being attacked and was already planning my counter attack when I realized you were not on the attack. I probably should not have admitted this but I guess I have some conservative tendencies. It's a little embarrassing.

Anyway thanks for the information.

"How many wingnut posters..." I can spot 'em easily, they show their location like this **Location: in hiding :)**

Seems like a lot of that fear is going around here these days, right Ret?

Have either one of you taken History. Everyone who says it repeats itself - have studied it, and found - yes it does. I have read the stats, but not memorized them, but for every recession the stats have shown if a Republican President followed, there were boom years. He would cut taxes, and do what it takes to encourage business to hire and expand. The Democrats only think tax and spend, and under O'crappo it's REGULATION NATION - drive business out.
