That was sarcasm. I spent eight years in the U.S.C.G. on four different ships all powered by steam or diesel generators supplying current to electric drive motors driving the propellers. On the last two cutters (ships) I was a duty engineer legally responsible for the engineering plant. On the first ship (an ex-Navy Ocean-going tug boat able to tow any Navy ship in service at that time). As far as I know I was the first E-5 in the Navy or the Coast Guard person to be elevated to that position, shortly thereafter I was promoted to E-6. I know a little bit about ships and boats at sea.
