SANDY, UT — A prominent figure in Utah says that his children had guns pointed at them during a violent police raid to investigate an alleged white-collar crime. “If they’ll do it to me, they’ll do it to anybody,” said former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.

“Law enforcement showed up in masks, 12 officers with bullet proof vests, assault rifles, burst through the door screaming and yelling at my kids,” Shurtleff said in an interview with Fox 13. He said that guns were pointed at his daughter and son, ages 16 and 20, in his suburban home while he was away.

“They burst [in on] my little girl – my 17-year-old – going to the bathroom, screaming at her to get out of there,” recalled Shurtleff. “When she steps out there are four men in body armor with weapons pointed at her chest.”

“They burst [in on] my little girl – my 17-year-old – going to the bathroom, screaming at her to get out of there. When she steps out there are four men in body armor with weapons pointed at her chest.”

“These John Wayne-wannabe, freakin’ Clint Eastwood, Dirty Harry tactics are absolutely unacceptable and unneeded,” said Shurtleff on KSL Radio.

“They in fact called the media to have them there to have them part of their circus, grandstanding,” Shurtleff said.

The raid occurred the evening of Monday, June 2nd, 2014. The FBI and Utah Department of Public Safety were investigating Shurtleff (as well as former A.G. John Swallow) on allegations of campaign finance fraud while in office. Shurtleff emphatically denies the allegations, saying that he is confident he will be cleared. “I’ve been offering to go in and talk to Sim Gill for a year,” he said.

Mr. Gill is the current District Attorney for Salt Lake County and head of the investigation against Shurtleff. He defended the tactics used, according to KSL: “There are certain things that you have to do when you go into an area that is unfamiliar to you… This is what every citizen out there is subjected to when it comes down.”

The Utah Department of Public Safety issued a statement about the raids. They said their agents “followed proper procedure” and “acted in accordance to policy and utilized the minimum force necessary to execute the warrants.”

“I don’t care what people think I may have done, and the truth will come out on that. But there was nothing that justifies what they did yesterday in my home,” said Shurtleff. “How do you give back innocence to a 17-year-old? She’s tiny. She’s no threat,” he continued. “She’ll never get that out of her mind.”

we do not live in a republic anymore. This kind of crap happens all over. Freind of mine, retired navy officer in his 60's, told me the FBI raided HIS house and terrified his wheelchair-bound wife with their automatic rifles. Seems they'd heard a "Hispanic family" in the neighborhood was selling drugs. There probably WAS someone selling drugs in the neighborhood. But couldn't they have staked out the nieghborhood first , in order to find out WHO? did they just pick dave's house at random?
Likewise when that fat rat Clinton sent 50 black-armored thugs to kidnap an 11 year old kid and send him back to slavery in Cuba. You need 50 Storm Troopers to kidnap an 11 year old? was the Fat Rat afraid the neighbors would get patriotic and resist slavery?
But since Sept 11 and the socalled Patriot Act it has gotten worse. The cops seem to think they are the Gestapo. And the politicians encourage it (naturally-most pols are power mad psycopaths.)
I don't know whether sueing them would do any good-probably not. we all know what the answer is but i'm not going to say it.

Excuse me, it wasn't the liberals who started police terror tactics! For all their faults, it is liberals who have brought lawsuits and started protests against police brutality. It is Republicans who constantly instigate police thuggery. Naturally-today's Repub politicians are NOT Constitutional conservatives. Barry Goldwater, God rest his soul, was probably the last true Conservative. Today's "neocon" Repubs are straight up Fascists. Their ideology is point for point identical with Mussolini's Fascism. Look up what Mussolini said about fascism, then look up the Project for the New American Century-the Neocon Bible.
Today's Rethuglicans believe like Lenin and Hitler "socialism (including National Socialism) is rule by force, not rule by law." Look at the police violence they instigated when people tried to protest at their conventions

Right you are! Clinton was as big a rat as any republican. Crooked as a dog's hind leg. And i don't trust that wife of his any farther than i can throw a big fat bull by his tail.
But, *in general*, liberals are opposed to police thuggery and today's so called conservatives (neocons) very much favor it. The problem is that not many Dem officials are really liberals. Clinton was just as much a corporate stooge as most repubs, and a bigger crook than they are. People like Fienstien and Boxer and Pelosi are leftist-authoritarian, sort of watered down Communists. That is NOT the same thing as a genuine liberal.
A genuine liberal is not that much different from a genuine Goldwater type conservative. Both believe in human rights and democracy. Goldwater wrote that what pricks the conscience of a conservative is "anything that demeans the dignity of man." But he was extremely distrustful of Government and thought the long-term harm of (for instance) letting the Federal Govt. force local schools to integrate, was possibly greater than the good acheived. Liberals are more likely to risk that.
But as i say, real liberals are as rare as real Goldwater conservatives. Both Parties are full of powermad jerks whose allegiance is to their own wealth and power.
