That would be great if this country was self sufficient. However it is not. We need food in winter from places south. Many products still are imported form China and other Asian countries. Until we have a complete manufacturing system like we had in the 1950s and 60s we would have severe shortages of a majority of things we need. We don't even have one lead smelter left here. Thank the green weenies for most of this problem. Until we plow them under and make fertilizer out of them, well, get yourself a rototiller and start a garden, put up a chicken coop, put some cows out to pasture.

California is a major player in the food production here in the US , however they seem to hate agriculture and do everything they can to hinder AG makes no difference that AG is a several Billion income to the state .

Holding growers responsible for pollution and waste is not hating farmers. Often the regulation being enforced is to a farmer's benefit once they spend the money and comply...example water efficiency and going to underground watering systems as opposed to above ground that lets huge percentages evaporate.

I doubt you would understand the complex political realities of big farming versus small farmers and the advantages bigger entities have, smaller farmers are being squeezed out by a system that is rigged by the big guys.

When it comes to holding people responsible for pollution you had better look at your townies neighbors they use far more chemicals and fertilizers at greatly higher amounts than any farmer !

Been a farmer for the better part of my 75 ys and woody you are totally clueless that farmers are polluters !

Back in my younger days I have farmed 1000 acres now that I'm nearing retirement age I've cut back to 550 acres and I'm surrounded by farmers that are from anywhere in the 4 to 25,000 acres farms so I see your knowledge that you are presenting to us as nothing more that keyboard expertise !


Keeping pollution as low as possible is very important to farmers as the land is their livelihood and damaging it is not in their best interest !


Problem with AG in Calif is the fact that folks would rather allow the water flow out to the ocean because of a small fish or something instead of allowing part of that water be diverted to farm ground thus leaving Thousands of acres idle instead of producing food !
