Professor at "white privilege" conference promotes Marxism as way to end racism.

In a video posted Saturday at Progressives Today, Kankakee Community College adjunct professor Stephanie Baran is heard promoting the idea that capitalism is the cause of racism in the modern world while speaking at the White Privilege Conference held in Madison, Wisconsin, this March. The answer, apparently, is full-blown Marxism.

Baran said she would be "down" with the idea of "kicking out capitalism," even though it would "encourage full scale revolution."

"I've learned I'm a 'vulgar Marxist,'" she added, "because I desire to see the entire dismantling of the system versus the other, softer, kinder, brutal Marxists."

Progressives Today said that more than 2,400 teachers and students attended the conference this year, and were told, among other things, that the white race was created in 1681, and that rape is not intrinsically bad. Another speaker urged attendees to think about ways to rein in free speech, and Christianity was also attacked as a tool that promotes racism.

The goal of the conference, according to another article at Progressives Today, was to promote ways educators could indoctrinate young children as part of the effort to remake America into a collectivist economy ruled by a tyrannical, oppressive government. Naturally, Christianity was a favorite target of speakers at the conference.

“So what do I mean by Christian hegemony?” one speaker said at the conference. “Um … very simply, I define it as the everyday, pervasive, deep seated and institutionalized dominance of Christian values, Christian institutions, leaders, and Christians as a group, primarily for the benefit of Christian ruling elites. So that’s very similar to how we might define racism or sexism or other systems of oppression.”

The right of free speech guaranteed by the First Amendment was another favorite target.

“The United States has the most open notion of freedom of speech in the world,” one speaker told attendees. “Many countries in the world, mainly western countries … for instance in Germany you cannot talk about the Nazis. In the U.S. you can talk about the Nazis. Not in Germany. You can’t buy Nazi memorabilia. Not in Germany. In South Africa you can’t talk about apartheid if you want apartheid.

“So even in western, liberal democracies there will be … there are certain things we do not do and do not say because they do hurt people and can lead people, through those words, to commit crimes against other people."

The speaker went on to wonder "how will we work on that at the local, state, national and international level?” The answer, Progressives Today said, "is for government to decide what’s okay for us to say out loud, and what we have to keep to ourselves."

"And that, of course, would mean that all criticism of government would be banned in short order," Steve Gunn added.

To help achieve this goal, teachers were instructed how to indoctrinate young children at the grade-school level. One session at the conference, for example, was called “Examining White Privilege and Building Foundations for Social Justice Thinking in the Elementary Classroom.”

How well does the indoctrination work? One young convert sounded off before the assembled masses.

“I can talk about how the racism inside me, I feel like I’m going to go home and tell my parents that I’m a racist and I’m not proud of that but I’m proud that I can say that,” the unidentified student said.

"At that moment, the assembled group of educators and activists applauded their latest convert," Kyle Olson reported.

That's some pretty bad stuff. I would not allow my children to listen to her garbage.

Isn't it humorous that only the political left (read that as sociopathic and naive to the hilt), believes in "white privilege"? They teach against it as though they KNOW whites are privileged - that means to me they think of THEMSELVES as privileged. If they feel guilty about being privileged and then maybe they can find the cure, but to try to force youngsters to feel that they, too, are privileged is SICK.

I've never in my life felt privileged over anyone else. I have always felt privileged to live in America. I've always felt privileged to have a decent and wonderful family. I've always felt privileged that I can select my jobs and my partners. Beyond those things, I am and never have been privileged in any respect whatsoever.

Will I feel guilty for MAYBE someone way back in my family tree once had a black maid? Of course not. Why should I? I had nothing to do with it - wasn't even born at the time. I should adopt a cloak of guilt for something that happened LONG ago? That is sheer idiocy put out by idiots - NOT only because they are destroying the country, but they are also destroying far more lives than slavery ever did.

The people running that conference in Wisconsin should have been booed out of the building. They should be shunned. Notice I am NOT saying they should be shut up, even they are saying I should be shut up. That's the difference between the left and the right. So simple.

I think I can assure everyone, that if these people and their brutal ideas take hold and they succeed in totally destroying our country, I will become an active anarchist.

The speaker is entirely on her own. I don't believe a lot of people would go along with her. She is way too far out there.

Stop and think for a moment, we have put these people in education. We pay all of them the same raise each year. Great teacher, good teacher, poor teacher, and horrible teacher. They all get the same raise. Not the way it works in business. Each worker should be evaluated on the job performed and paid accordingly. But this is not what we do with educators, we treat them like socialists and we can't understand how they could think like that!! We have congress people who think islands can tip over in the oceans who want input to our educational system. Put it back in the hands of the locals and let them guide the standards.

Absolutely!! And do it ASAP! I don't actually believe we treat them like socialists, Cherokee. I think we treat them better than that. They are too often given credit when they should have been given a pink slip. They, like gov. employees, do as they are told by their superiors. They'd be better off to have a code of ethics and stick to it.

At least State level. Local cannot always handle everything, although education should be handled at the local level as much as possible. However, the recent test scandal in Atlanta should show there has to be some oversight. Like you, I agree that it should not be federal.

Interesting you bring up Atlanta. Those involved in that scandal were not: Asian, Hispanic, or white. Want to guess who was involved?? The same people who cry about poor schools and they need to attend better schools, etc. To get what they want requires some effort and study on their part regardless which schools they attend. I am tired of the complaints yet almost all of them are carrying I phones and I don't believe they are considered a necessity of life.

My point. Left at local level, it probably would not have been caught. Too much mutual butt covering going on.

It seems tho, that (we) anarchists must get get permission from our Rulers. You know, from those other-type so-called humans who can exist only by virtue of some Constitution and a huge batch of "laws" which are implanted upon we "citizen" slaves without our consent. I signed for none of that, and nobody alive was ever asked for that consent. The only Rights we peons might have come only with the Permission of our Rulers, who have never owned ANY rights to grant!

So how the heck do we become 'active'?

I just checked your Progressives Today site and it has some really humorous stuff to offer. I put on a thing about what 8 year olds are being taught on here the other day. Just think how stupid that woman who said whites were created in 1681 and repeated it so the attendees could hear her. She didn't seem to know that white people settled Jamestown in 1607 and the people that settled Plymouth did so in 1621 or 1622. She proved that she is stupid and is trying to create stupid little kids as stupid.
