To be fair some of those numbers may not be accurate. They may be, as some have suggested, UNDER reported and the real tally may be much higher. Conversely there are reports of deaths of older people being labelled as Covid when it was just their time. So lets be generous and say just 10% of the reported deaths can be attributed to Trumps mishandling and criminal neglect. Round it off to say an even 20,000. If you were the Captain of a ship with that many deaths because of your negligence there would be a serious legal consequence. In microterms if you were the driver of a bus and instead of following commonsense road rules you careened drunkenly down the center of a divided highway, crashed the bus and 20 of your passengers died would that be a case for criminal negligence? Your first sentence is correct, after that you veer off into talking points that of course totally exonerate your beloved. Isolation can prevent you acquiring the virus. New Zealand and a couple of other countries have proved that. A national effort to contain the virus led by (you might expect) the anointed leader of the country to bring together a national bi-partisan task force to address the threat by identifying hotspots and instituting effective countermeasures such as intensive testing, quarantining cluster groups with follow up care and support. The entire country would not have to be shutdown and the worst effects mitigated with a much lower infection and death rate. Had this been done this President would be coasting to an easy victory with most of the country behind him.

But unfortunately fear won the day and this feckless President saw a threat to his re-lection that led him to delay, discredit and delegitimize the worst public health crisis to face this country in history. Ignoring science, berating experts, firing anybody who questioned his erratic responses, those are not the actions of a statesman regardless of party.

So, sorry, but in my view he has culpability for some of those 200,000 plus untimely deaths.
