Our discussion took place right here on OPP. I think China purposefully infected the world, CD was I felt overly apologetic, but I commented I didn't trust what the Communist Chinese government said, he agreed. Later he pointed out his wife was Chinese, (I felt that explained his defensiveness.)I have no doubt that you have a greater knowledge about Chinese culture than I. I merely based my opinion on evidence that is coming out, and communist regimes in general being devious and quite frankly evil in my opinion. It is my opinion that Communist China is our enemy. However I'm pretty sure that nothing I can say to CD on the subject will change his opinion, so I will post with him on other topics, and let the truth come out some other way, (it always does.) I always try to avoid outright deceptions, they truly lead nowhere, and I'm too old to lie, (it's too much trouble.)

Cheers... We've had a number of good conversations on the OPP...

I don't feel like I'm apologetic for the CCP, but I understand why some folk think that... Living here gives me a different perspective... Much like living in the US no doubt gives you a different perspective...

It's doubtful that I truly understand what folk in the US are experiencing... And from watching the MSM and reading the OPP it's obvious to me that Americans (and westerners in general) don't understand what we've experienced over here...

My wife being Chinese has little to do with it... I think I pointed that out because I was accused of being Chinese (very offense to a man...wink wink)... She has her own understanding of things... We often argue over the "facts"

China is not a friend, but I doubt it's an enemy... Competitor would be the best word for it... And they need America's market... For the time being at least...

Stay strong... I appreciate the honesty

You sir are brave man arguing with your wife over "facts" no less. As I said the truth about China's involvement will come out, whether really bad and devious, or maybe not. I don't feel I need to insist that you accept my opinion, (I still think you're a bit too apologetic, but I can take it.) Hope and your family are well

Not brave... I usually hold the kid in front of me while arguing

I think we'll all learn more as time passes...

Hope you and yours are well too

Millions of us grab a coffee on our way to work. And when we do, it probably comes served in a branded, disposable, cardboard coffee cup. Once the coffee is done, just pop the cup into a recycling bin and forget about it. The cup will be taken away and turned into a new one for you to use again tomorrow. The system works, right?

There's a hitch. In the UK, we throw away an estimated 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups every year. And despite being recyclable in theory, in practice only very few of them are dealt with in a way that makes them sustainable. This makes them a bit of an obstacle. What throws a spanner in the works is the layer of polyethylene that makes the cup waterproof, and the lid, which is most often made of polystyrene. As a result, most of the cups end up in landfill.

But there are efforts underway to tackle this issue. One company, Biome Bioplastics, has come up with a fully compostable, recyclable cup that uses natural materials, such as potato starch, as waterproofing. Mr Mines, its chief executive, believes that this is the first time bioplastic has been used for disposable cups and lids that have to cope with hot liquid. And they're still fully recyclable.

Another feasible solution has been proposed by Frugalpac, who have patented a cup with a lightly-attached plastic lining. This can be easily separated during the recycling and "offers a more pragmatic solution" than changing our current recycling habits, says Frugalpac's founder Martin Myerscough.

Safia Qureshi says India has provided the inspiration for her solution. She puts forward that we use returnable and reusable cups, which are tracked and collected by her company Cup Club. They will be responsible for collecting, washing and redistributing the clean cups to participating retailers.

One final example of lateral thinking comes from Cupffee. This trio from Bulgaria have combined cereals to form a cup which can be eaten once the drink is finished. It is apparently sweet and crisp, can hold a coffee for up to 40 minutes and will biodegrade within weeks.

Whether any of these innovative ideas are a perfect fit for this disposable issue, only time will tell. It's possible that a more viable solution has yet to be ventured, though it may not be long in coming. All it might require is a little more thinking outside the box… or should that be coffee cup?

Slightly relative to the discussion (which is really about recycling, not coffee.)

This came through my FB feed today from an old friend, who is now a retired Episcopal bishop.
I thought there might be some folks on OPP who would appreciate this little prayer.

My post wasn't about the Canadian, although you do seem obsessed with him.
I was making the point that there are far deeper and darker networks, dealing with far more important matters, than one man in a huge country talking about coffee-cups.
This site is made up of ( mostly ) civilized people, swapping opinions and wisdom. Nobody is obligated to air their views on anything, just to satisfy your juvenile curiosity.
As for your "china-lover" comment, it speaks to your shallow character, which was surprising. I had felt you were more sophisticated than that.

billy a,

your post isn't about the Canadian, just as this thread is not about politics, yet it was started by him in the Main section, not in the non-political section, graciously provided for us by the OPP.

Oh, it is really about recycling, really?

Just check the eager responses in the thread and then tell me. But thanks for being a proxy. And your feelings about my character are "spot on"!

I’m retired now but even when I was working, I always made a 20 oz mug of coffee using my Keurig brewer and took that to work. Most days, that would be ”my limit”. I would, of course, always recycle the plastic Keurig K-Cup each day and use the coffee grounds in the garden and on the tomato plants too. I retired in 2012 and still go through the same routine each day !!
