Absolutely NO! In addition to trying to change the gun laws in Virginia the newly elected demoncrat house is going to vote on removing RIGHT to WORK in the State. They are going to make it AGAINST the LAW to criticize govt. officials, a felony, no less.

How does eliminating Right to Work make it against the law to criticize government officials, let alone a felony?

Hell no! Labor unions are a step away from socialism which is a step away from communism. Yes some pay their dues (freakin' heavy ones) and work all of their lives as complacent maroons. The Archie Bunker character was one, but they are just puppets doing whatever the bosses tell them. WHATEVER kiss my gutt in Times Square "okay Mr. Rockefeller." Like that.

Why can't you just do the job without joining a union? The union didn't create the company, they're just supposed to help the workers without coercion. But they don't seem to be able to do that. Some people have been trying to exit the unions for years, but the unions still steal their money. When they do that, they are no better than thieves.

Some companies make it so you have to be part of a union to work there, stupid isn't it? For all they know they are telling some who can't afford dues "Sorry, try another place." When those people may be the next Tesla or Edison. Unions are corrupt, no getting around that and there are kickbacks from the companies. See the incestuous relationship? Kind of like government. So many inter-marry.

In what way did they screw you?

Peter S. I usually did better in the private sector because I used my skills to campaign for what I thought was a fair wage and bennies for what I was going to provide to the employer. Unions allow people who didn't apply themselves to learn skills to be employed at the cost of the employer and their customers. Mike

Most unions provide training to update skills for their workers. This is paid from union dues.

And many companies won’t respond to anything but coercion.

Maybe if they stopped funding political parties and spent the money on protecting workers. Railroad workers would be better off. If I recall correctly most RR workers make north of 30.00 per hour not counting benefits from day one.

This hasn’t been true since 1988 when the Supreme Court ruled that union workers could opt out of political contributions in Communications Workers of America v Beck.

When I worked in an employee capacity, I never joined a union and never had a problem. Good raises, bonuses, benefits, promotions, etc...

My best friend did join a union, however, and they screwed him royally to the point that he had to take them to court to get them to fulfill their end of the contract.

You lefties continually put out this BS that every employer is out to screw his/her/their workers every chance they get, and only a union can protect them. That's got to have something to do with Democrats, The Party of Corruption®, having long been a major recipient of union campaign donations.

Every company I ever worked for both compensated and promoted based on merit (asset value). If you did good work they took care of you, if you goofed off they first tried to motivate you and if that didn't work, hasta la bye bye.

But wait! I think I know where you're coming from, there, Peter -- you're speaking from personal experience, as one of those lazy employees whose job performances are at best tepid, who work for local government or other civil service and can't get fired because of the union, right?

Aha! Got you pegged!

In what way was your friend screwed by the union?

Unfortunately many companies don’t treat their workers fairly. In these cases a union is the best protection.

Federal union employees can be fired. See page 7
https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/employee-relations/reference-materials/managing-federal-employees%E2%80%99-performance-issues-or-misconduct.pdf

State and local civil servants can be fired under similar conditions.

......evoking a question of should you force someone to do something in the ideologie debates of autocracy vs.democracy- suppression vs freedom is not a very sound interrogative that an intellegent person would pursue or ask-
- given the fact that they are habitants of the latter social genre.
In a free society, Ideally, you don't force anyone to do anything, that would be totally antithical to the concept you profess to believe in.It is not a cut and dry situation to be simplified,by asking do you force a person to join a union. There are factors that are advantages and factors that are detrimental to being in a union.

Of course not. They also shouldn't be forced to accept the pay labor unions provide, nor the benefits, nor the cost of living raises, nor any of the other benefits labor unions provide.

My suggestion if you want nothing to do with unions then find nonunion work somewhere and enjoy the wondrous benefits of working where you are at the mercy of management. Enjoy!

It's not that simple

The Bell system, when it existed, was the same. "Pioneers of America" union. Take money, give nothing.

My father-in-law started with the Santa Fe and was bought out a millionaire at 45 with the merger. My brother-in-law just retired from the Burlington Northern with enough pension to live any life he and his wife want to live. All of this was because of a union you describe as a mafia.

The middle class of this country was created by unions. The last 30 years, when wages have stagnated, is because of the destruction of unions in this country by right-wing forces. It was this lack of unions that caused the lack of upward pressure on wages they provided. Sometimes the only way management will listen to workers if they are mafia. But if you don't want to work with a union then you should work in a non-union shop--I don't agree with people being forced to join a union. At the same time if you don't want to be in a union you don't deserve the wages, benefits, or the upward pressure on real wages they provide. While most of the American workers saw their wages stagnate my inlaws saw their wages stay well ahead of the cost of living curve. Why? Because of unions!

Not everyone is that lucky there are some people that have changed jobs and the one they enter is not a union based job but the union continues to take their money many have had to go to court because they will not let these people out of the union
