Why The War On Drugs Is Totally Idiotic

This is the title to an article that I just read using "free market" principles as the basis for it's argument.

While I agree with the premise, one can also use the "libertarian" argument, the "racial inequity" argument, the "prison growth industry argument", and the "illegal drugs funds the CIA Black Budget" argument (deprive them of their source of funding) as reasons to decriminalize our drug laws.

Bottom line, the so-called War on Drugs is a joke, and doesn't work. So, when will the public come to realize this, and demand a change?

The war on drugs has not worked because it has never been a war. It has just been scrimmage here and there.

Some already realize it, but not nearly enough of them. For the last 70 years, whenever America declares war on, well, anything, it; drains the US and State treasuries at an exponential rate - grows the bureaucracy at an exponential rate - causes a proliferation of the very thing we're "fighting" against - and - causes an institutionalized rote response on the subject, where generations of Americans parrot Government propaganda whenever one tries to discuss the subject.

Drugs is a vice and cannot be successfully regulated any more than alcohol or prostitution.

My only argument with the article is that he couldn't find anything more idiotic that the gubmint does. There're LOTS of things. The war on drugs has only cost a trillion bucks. The war in Iraq has cost more than twice that and it is never ending also. We spend about the same on foreign aid as we do on the drug war. Just as stupid, maybe more, since the drug war money mostly stays in the U.S.. Asset forfeiture is creepier than drug laws but they are done at the war on drugs behest. They now scan my I.D. if I get change from the bank! Crazy! Making me sell cakes to gay people is more idiotic. Killing 60 million babies since just after the war on drugs began is pretty idiotic too.

So yes, the war on drugs is idiotic, but just about everything the government does is equally idiotic. The only things they do really well are kill people and break things.

We always seem to see drug use as a moral issue instead of a health issue, which I think is a mistake.

I've always maintained that people will stop using drugs when life without drugs is better than life with drugs. Sometimes that means hitting a pretty painful bottom, of course. And then there is addiction to deal with (which we also tend treat as a moral failing rather than a medical situation).

The politicians appear to pour money mostly into programs that are politically expedient. We deserve better.

We could always learn from the Pilipino president. A .22 behind the ear when caught. Kidding, sort of, but a big beautiful wall would help a lot and searching diplomats baggage, and drug testing all our reps every quarter. If the military can do it so can they.

I wonder what kind of drugs the killer in Virginia was on? Psychotropic like all the other shooters! They don’t need gun control they need to control the loose use of prescription drugs!

Here's the logic of our drug laws:

We think it will ruin your life if you take these drugs over here, therefore, if we catch you taking these drugs over here, we're going to ruin your life.

On the other hand, those drugs over there, with their patents and corporate lobbyists, we're going to purchase for you even though they ruin more lives every year than these drugs here.

We understand the only reason anyone takes any drugs at all is to feel better, but if you choose the wrong way to feel better we're going to let the cops take all your stuff and lock you in a cage for a while.
