When it comes to the United States of America, in the beginning were formed 13 colonies by people seeking freedom from the tyranny of the cruel King George. There were Pilgrims who wanted to worship and recognize the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They sought a relationship with God without interference from dominating government approved religious bullies who would not have recognized God if they had tripped on his toes. After the Pilgrims finally began making a successful go of it in the New World, people from throughout Europe packed their belongings and shipped out to what would one day become the sweet land of liberty.

In time, the people throughout the colonies had enough of being bludgeoned, shot, hung, robbed and even raped by the British brutes who deemed the colonists as less than them. Eventually there was formed what became known as the Continental Congress. The continental Congress passed the resolution calling for independence on July 2, 1776. On July 4th the formal Declaration was adopted. This illustration reproduces the formal Declaration engrossed on parchment, probably by Timothy Matlock of Philadelphia, then signed by most members of Congress 2, 1776.

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitles them.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness…

We, Therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor. After every one of the delegates had signed the Declaration of Independence, Samuel Adams then proclaimed.

“We have this day restored the Sovereign to Whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let His kingdom come”.

On July 3, 1776, delegate John Adams expressed his ideas about forever preserving the remembrance of the historic God inspired mission to establish the first nation in human history dedicated to our creator. “The second day of July, 1176, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America, to be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival, commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty from one end of the Continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore.

On July 3, 1776, the day after Congress approved the wording of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams wrote to his wife of great faith, Abigail, reflecting on what he had shared in Congress and, with prophetic insight, declaring the importance of that fateful day.

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parades, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forever.

You will think me transported with enthusiasm, but I am not. I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend theses States. Yet through all the gloom I can see that the end is worth more than all the means; that posterity will triumph in that day’s transaction, even though we [may regret] it, which I trust in God we will not. That dear reader is a small sample of our great American heritage of a relationship with our loving Creator, our inalienable rights which come from Him. In future columns I will be highlighting many more examples of our Heritage. In addition, the importance of reestablishing and maintaining the values, customs and godly principles that made the United States the Envy of the World will be often highlighted. My Dad used to say that our government is a reflection of “We the People”.

He was right, after all “We” elect our representatives. Overall as our collective morality declines because of a blockheaded refusal of the light of our Savior Jesus, government officials like Nancy Pelosi will remain in position to push the darkness of destruction over our republic. I for one know, that we must not give in to the leftist darkness, no matter how difficult the challenge to restore the order according to God’s will and purposes. Like the Gipper Ronald Reagan said, we win, they lose. Amen to that.
