During the holiday season this year people seem to be bearing their teeth and taking positions that are complete alien to the teachings of the prince of peace. A sincere greeting of happy holidays is taken as personal insult by the self righteous. A joyous message of inclusion attacked as a war on Christmas. In reality most in The United States have not celebrated Christmas in decades it has been replaced with Giftmas, an orgy of shopping, spending, gluttony and greed. It is how our children are conditioned to indulge themselves with conspicuous consumption and prepare for a joyless life spent in the pursuit of things. Exhausted, overworked, underpaid and indebted workers besott themselves on free booze at holiday office parties. Many foolishly tell colleagues and bosses what they really think of their soul robbing jobs or opt for a debaucherous romp with a coworker resulting in regret, humiliation and all too often a January job search. Public behavior goes to hell after Thanksgiving dinner where otherwise decent people brawl with each other in hideous spectacles of greed fighting to get one of a few door buster specials on giant TVs or computers. Children are lied to and told that they are being watched by a god like Santa who will deny them gifts if they misbehave. This is done in order to extort good behavior for reward. Think of how messed up it is that we lie to children in many instances to discourage them from lying. . Public roads and parking lots become battlefields as the miserable hoards partake in furious road rage and fight over parking spaces. Domestic violence and suicide rates go up as people are unable to obtain the utopian vision Madison Avenue has promised them. In my opinion the best thing to do at this time of year is take your loved ones to a quiet place, hunker down with some good books from the library and a nice bottle of brandy and ignore it all.

No wonder you're a cynical Progressive. No joy!

No matter what you may think God is in His heavens and therefore all is well.

You either live in an alternate universe from the one I live in, or you are such an angry bitter person that no one wants to be near you because they are afraid that you, much like a blood sucking leach, will suck all the joy out of everyone near you. My world is one of friends who share in joy and sorrow, assist each other when needed, and provide a shoulder to cry on once in a while.

Interesting article. Kinda jaded, but a few good points. Missing the main point, tho , of the war on Christians and their holidays. I've long thought that all the movies and etc that have been put out about Christmas gifts being the point are propaganda. For instance the old movie from the 30s I think about the young married couple where she sold her hair to get him a watch fob for his dad's watch and he sold his dad's watch to get her a clip for her beautiful hair. The main point of Christmas is coming together to celebrate hope and joy for humanity because of Jesus. The insane shopping part is all propaganda. But sitting around and drinking and not acknowledging the "reason for the season" is also b.s. Being "offended" by nativity scenes is simply hubris.

A male nurse at one of my doctors and I were talking about the shopping madness that surrounds Christmas. He told me what he and his wife do for their three children and I was impressed. He said they buy each child three gifts; something they want, something they need and something in remembrance of Christmas.
