If the government shuts down, the average person doesn't even notice. Non-essential government employees are paid to stay home and not work, as opposed to getting paid for going to work and not working.

So true when one is discussing members of all levels within "civil servant" bureaucracies, and they are significantly better compensated than their non-governmental counterparts, from whose taxes come their wages and benefits.

What 'bite'? The Federal government has shut down many times since I came to understand the meaning of the words 'shut down', and I could not see a difference. So once again, what changes? Where's the 'bite'?

Get real, 75% of the government is already funded for 2019, so it’s not like the government comes to a screeching halt. At some point someone has to stand up and say enough is enough!
