Dementia or shameless hypocrisy?

Mitch McConnell calls for Democrats to work with Republicans in bipartisan efforts. Perhaps the new Speaker should emphatically state that their goal is to ensure that Trump is a one term President, you know.......................like McConnell did about Obama. We'll see if House Democrats attempt to get stuff done, or simply maneuver things to help in the 2020 elections. Maybe Democrats will attempt to appease donors....................by trying to pass some kind of tax relief bill benefiting those donors. Maybe they'll try 62 times to re-authorize the Affordable Care Act, just as Republicans tried to repeal it. Maybe the Speaker will refuse to bring anything Republicans want to a vote, you know, the way McConnell does in the Senate.

It remains to be seen whether the new Congress will do it's job, play "gotcha", "payback's a bitch", or " I know I am but what are you?", or some other infantile games such as we've seen played in DC over the last 10 years.

They are going to play the nastiest game on the GOP possible, they are going to get things done. By doing things and being able to call the shots on when votes are taken they can shine a light on the dysfunctional part of the house and senate for those who haven't been able to figure it out.

The answer isn't an either or choice. It's dementia and shameless hypocrisy. When I read his statement this morning I had a seriously good laugh.

It's a political statement which translated says we tried, that's all. He knows very well that Hell has a better chance of freezing over than a bi-partisan olive branch. When the Dems talk about impeachment on one hand, they're not trying to get along with the other. It's pretty simple. Besides, the Dems don't want any part of the Trump agenda looking promising or effective like it has for the last two years (booming economy, 100 new record highs in the market, record low unemployment, etc.) You know all those things you would expect (but not really) out of your government. The Dems will try to make the Trump administration look as dysfunctional as they can, for a shot (as weak as it may seem) for 2020. With Trump's outstanding record (that 95% of the American electorate understand), it will be a miracle for the Dems to do much damage, IMO. More money in your pocket, more jobs to choose from, less regs for business people....these are all pluses. That's why the midterms which are usually a mild disaster for the party in power, got a "little blue trickle". First midterm for Obama, he lost 63 seats in the House and 6 in the Senate. So when the Dems holler "blue wave", it's a crock.

It's hard to offer an olive branch to a party that wants resist, obstruct, and impeach. Somehow that just doesn't work.

An olive branch is meaningful only when the stronger offers it to the weaker. It would have worked perhaps had he done it a year ago. After barely hanging onto the Senate in such a favorable number of races in Trump territory, it looks like hypocrisy. In 2020 the Republicans will defend twice as many seats as Democrats and if the current dynamic holds, the Dems will also control the Senate. McConnell knows that.
