(Reuters) - Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens said on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Bre nott Kavanaugh does not belong on the high court, the Palm Beach Post reported.
Speaking to an audience of retirees in Boca Raton, Florida, Stevens, 98, said Kavanaugh’s performance during a recent Senate confirmation hearing suggested he lacks the temperament for the job.
Stevens, a lifelong Republican, praised Kavanaugh and one of his rulings on a political contribution case in the 2014 book “Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution.”
"At that time, I thought (Kavanaugh) had the qualifications for the Supreme Court should he be selected,” Stevens said at the event hosted by a Palm Beach Post reporter.
“I’ve changed my views for reasons that have no relationship to his intellectual ability ... I feel his performance in the hearings ultimately changed my mind.”
Commentators, Stevens said, have argued that Kavanaugh’s blistering testimony during a Sept. 27 hearing on sexual misconduct allegations demonstrated a potential for political bias should he serve on the Supreme Court.
Stevens said political leaders and the court have failed to repair the nation’s confidence in the judicial branch’s separation from the president and the legislature.
“I think it’s worse, I regret to say it,” he said.
The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation on Friday. An FBI report to the Senate Judiciary Committee concluded an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh by California psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford and former Yale classmate Deborah Ramirez.

Feinstein, Schumer, and the rest of those involved in this are a Despiteful, vindictive disgusting display and should all be put in jail for lying, or setting up a person, for putting others up etc.. They are a mockery to our justice system right along with yes as many Republicans, but they take the cake! Pppfffttt

Really? Judge Kavanaugh truthfully admitted to drinking, he did not lie about it. The only lies told were those who coordinated this false attack on Judge Kavanaugh because they couldn't stop him on the merits. IN THE FBI report Ford's ex-FBI agent friend threatened and pressured Leyland Keyser, (supposedly Ford's good friend, and other witnesses to change their testimony,) to agree with Ford's. Keyser (and the others,) refused. And EVERY Democrat and Republican KNEW Ford was having an ex-FBI agent pressure witnesses. This was a set-up from the start. I have to agree with the Democrats on one thing. The FBI needed to do more. They need to THOROUGHLY investigate Ford and her ties and coordination with the democrats, and then CHARGE HER

Bad Bob always uses that defense of Hillary, always. Well I take great pleasure in using the left's own tactics against them. Now that the Senate has confirmed Judge Kavanaugh, this only adds to the FBI clearing him. He must be innocent. He has to be because that is the standard. The Senate would never have confirmed a guilty man. Once again President Trump Triumphs. That is the other liberal standard. If you win, you have been proven right. Obama won the early political battles, so he had to be right. Trump has won another fight. That is all that matters.
