So Much for the North Korea "Breakthrough"

Since the summit, "U.S. negotiators have faced stiff resistance from a North Korean team practiced in the art of delay and obfuscation," the WashPost's John Hudson, Josh Dawsey and Carol Leonnig report:

"Diplomats say the North Koreans have canceled follow-up meetings, demanded more money and failed to maintain basic communications."
"[A] missile-engine testing facility that Trump said would be destroyed remains intact, and U.S. intelligence officials say Pyongyang is working to conceal key aspects of its nuclear program."
"The lack of immediate progress, though predicted by many analysts, has frustrated the president, who has fumed at his aides in private even as he publicly hails the success of the negotiations."

No one really expected anything any different. The reality is that North Korea will do exactly what China tells them to. They are China's client state and would collapse in short order without Chinese support. The only thing that will bring the little fat boy to heel is pressuring China into ordering him. He does not dare displease China as his regime would be lucky to last for 24 hours sans Chinese backing.

Of course everyone except Trump, who told America they should "sleep well" because the entire problem was solved. What an idiot!

When did Trump say this? I seem to remember Obama saying something similar about the Iran nuclear deal which actually aided Iranian aims.

Look at the two Trump tweets embedded in this article. And are you saying that if Obama said something similar, that makes it OK? I would think that if Trump said something that was identical to Obama, you would think that was dreadful.

It does not matter what Trump tweets for public consumption. What matters is whether or not he can lean on the Chinese to put a bridle on the pride of Pyongyang.

Rome wasn't built in a day and there have been no pallets of cash delivered in exchange for broken promises. The point is that Trump went the extra mile in an attempt to solve the issue. If it fails because Kim is looking for a bribe then it's not Trumps failure. The biggest threat from Kim is not a missile strike ( which may not even get off the ground) but a land invasion of the south.

BREAKING: UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, SecState Mike Pompeo URGENT Press Conference - July 20, 2018

Among other things, Pompeo and Haley provide updates on negotiations with NK. In case you haven't noticed, since Trump first confronted Kim Jong Un, North Korea has not fired a single missile or tested another nuke.
