Some people think I can still spend time on the north shore wading around in boots and netting smelt..
the announced today they are running and I owe it to myself to make one more attempt to fill a trunk with the little critters..
so seems a rough row for me to hoe, but will think about it for a while..
It is true the Smelt are running!!!

Well bobby, did take all the advise and while it will be days before I recover, it sure was fun..
Slatts said have fun so I did.
About 3 hours to a river just north (east) of Duluth, think the French river, not sure.. Ton of people..
Never remember those nets, waders and stuff were so heavy.. and the water so cold..
Had to grab some sack time in the van.. When I got out our group joined with a couple other groups and were frying us Smelt in every recipe known to man..
We did pretty good, 3- 5 gal buckets near full.. lent some of our equipment to some newbies and the could cook... really well..
Fun it was, but another old geezer said he had enough as well and we headed back about 3am.. had planed to stay 2 nights.. That is when smelt show up and run upstream.
Glad I went, decades from the last time and when I manage to recover, I will brag all summer..
