All you have to do is nod, and say "I understand", then change the subject. Depending on the topic, changing the subject to how much you would like a sandwich right now isn't always a good idea.

You're dreams are way out in left field. I was married for 43 years before cancer took her so now it is all memories. I am going by what I remember and nobody is guaranteed tomorrow so follow my advice and be safe rather than sorry.
